Imported Russian Bread Drink Kvas"ochakovsky" 2l

I've made some of my own kvass and it tastes different then mine, a little more watery and more of a raisin taste but overall its pretty good, both times I've bought this it always came sooner then the estimated delivery dates amazon gave. it is a bit expensive though, I have seen some store then only sell Russian food and drinks for cheaper but I have no idea what their shipping, customer support or safety measures are like. If you like kvass and have made some of your own and don't want to go through the hassle this is a good buy and worth it, but if you have never tried kvass or any kind of Russian drink it's gonna taste really weird the first time but you'll probably like it after a few more sips and minutes have passed.

Sixteen short years ago, I adopted my son from Russia. It has been a joy seeing him grow and mature. We have had a blast learning about Russian history, social mores, culture, etc. He's a great cook, and loves cooking ethnic foods. He'd read about Kvass and decided he wanted to begin fermenting it at home. Thought I'd better let him taste it first to see if he wanted to go to the trouble. WHOA! He loves it! It's a heady drink with rye bread and molasses vibes... yep, strange but truthfully GOOD. Fermentation of our home brew to commence shortly but this stuff is great for those who wish to go no further than ordering a bottle! Arrived quickly too!!

My son wanted to try this after a friend from Ukraine told him about it. It came in great condition & was sealed- nothing wrong with it. However, I didnt care for the taste. I think it's an acquired thing. Do not expect this to be like our Coke or Pepsi. It is sour, not sweet &...well, it's hard to describe. If you are feeling adventurous & want to try what the Russians & Ukrainians love, then this is it.

The flavor of this is unlike anything I’ve had, I’ve got to say I feel like most of Eastern Europe has been hiding this on the Americans as some sort of prank as you can’t find this almost anywhere unless it’s online. I’ve seen mixed reviews but from what I can tell this is considered a standard brand, home made and more expensive brands that have to stay refrigerated are far better but this will let you know if you have a taste for kvass or not. As for the taste? Tastes and smells EXACTLY like fresh rye bread with twinge of something sweet at the end. Like jelly almost. I got to say I’m glad I tried this and will absolutely have to buy more. Only downside is high price per bottle. Been told I should not pay more than 5 bucks for a single 2L bottle of kvass and that I’m being hammered double what the bottle is worth. So while I’m glad I was able to buy a single bottle at double price to even try it. Now that I know I like it I can buy it in bulk other places.

Either you like the taste or you don't, this is one of those things. If you're accustomed to it it's very good and very good for you.

I'd never had this beverage before, but some online friends convinced me to give it a try. Either this flavor is very much an acquired taste, or else something went wrong in the shipping and storage, and the beverage didn't live up to the expected shelf life. Either way, it wasn't good, and the only reason I'm not giving this a single star is that it might just be a matter of taste.
