Unfortunately, the fire roasting process made it taste like soot, with none of the flavor of the plant showing through. I had read that the roasted version was similar to black tea, but it was not at all. I was expecting a flavor similar to Yerba Mate, as they are both in the holly family, but it was just unpleasant all over. I will still try Yaupon Holly in the future, just not a roasted version. Brewed one cup, took a sip, poured it out and threw away the rest.
