It actually assisted my hair in growing. Now that I've gone natural (a few years), and prefer to wear my hair straightened, I had the same issue with frizz and reversion back to the coil state after about 24-48 hours of straightening. This product stinks to high heaven with a sulphuric smell, but it works great to tame coils and prevent frizz and 'swelling' of hair from the humidity. I used half the bottle about six weeks ago and haven't had to use the 2nd half as yet. The bottle is for two applications, but the user determines when it's time for a re-conditioner.
