The the area where you put the ski is about 2 1/2 ft it is great for beginner salalom **Q: can you disconnect handle from rope?** A: Yes...with a sharp knife. Just kidding. You can remove it when the rope is new, but it gets tougher after use and the slip knot tightens up.
