How small does it break down for transport?

If you look at the photo in the ad, there are a couple white looking dots on the poles near the tailgate handle. That is where it is bolted together and breaks down. The two arms detach there and are approximately 4' long I'd say, although I don't have them with me at the moment to measure. The remaining piece is "L" shaped and I'd guess the long side would be around 2' with the short end that slides into your hitch receiver being around 1' or less. It comes with the bolts and a little wrench to keep with it for assembling/breaking down, and I believe it comes with a hitch pin to keep in in place in the receiver in case you don't have one.

Will this work for a camping hammock??

Not on the model I have. The loops on the arm to attach the chair are welded so the arms cannot be flipped. There is a newer version that does support using a regular hammock. I have attached one end of a hammock to the stand and the other to a tree and it worked fine.

Can one person use it only on one side? All the pictures have people in both sides.

Yup. It will hold just one person easily.

Can i use my own hammock chair? I have two chairs made of the rope hammock type material.

Yes, I opted to use two ENO hammock chairs. I’d just make sure they aren’t super long, or you’ll be sitting in the ground
