Should I get a large or medium

Because of the rear adjuster, I feel you can go either way. I would go medium. I wear a large and and extra large in other helmets.

Is the sunshield removable?

It should be removable because the Vega website lists a Amber sunshield (Item #95-7803) for this helmet. Purpose of the Amber color is the same as wearing yellow shootin glasses; it brightens things up. I.E. Overcast days, night riding, etc.

Are these too hot to use in summer?

I find them to be rather comfortable... and not to hot... great for reducing wind and noise.
