(2.5") brass doorbell push . I drilled a hole through the wooden door frame, immediately behind the external brass bell, and mounted this bell push extender on the inside of the front door frame, immediately behind the oak plinth/brass bell push. The BY202 has been left on its default Westminster Chimes setting, which is fine. The whole setup only took about 45 minutes to install, and worked first time. A couple of points to note: 1) The doorbell extender comes with a short piece of 2 core bell wire, something like 6 inches long, to connect to the wired doorbell, so no need to buy any more if that's long enough for your installation. 2) You have to press the doorbell for half a second or so to trigger the wireless bell. It's not a big deal but it feels quite different from the previous plastic wireless bell system. Review: MISLEADING DESCRIPTION - Warning! This item is NOT in fact suitable to be "linked into any wired doorbell system". No mention on the website product description but the actual product packaging states it to NOT be suitable for use with any wired doorbell system with an illuminated doorbell push. This will work with the BY212 chimes. That is the combination of products I used. **Q: will this work with an illuminated doorbell?** A: Almost certain that it will not. This unit only has a 3v battery, CR2032 which drives the wireless signalling but will not be sufficient for illumination. **Q: Does this work without a battery when connected to a bell that operates from a mains transformer?** A: No. The supplied internal 3v lithium battery (CR2032) is still required. It lasts seemingly indefinitely. This is a fairly important omission on the seller's part. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good value and effective small wired to wireless BY32 door bell converter *by T***S on 2 April 2021* Neat solution to extend fixed doorbell wirelessly into garden. Range 50m at least through most of house and 25m of garden. Bought BY32 with BY503. Used option to wire with transformer by connecting inside existing bell across solenoid terminals of bell. Reviews elsewhere mention possible inclusion of 6 inches of bell wire, used my own as this item didn't mention such. Slightly fiddly inserting wires into screw terminals, as you have to hold the unit in the air as you fasten them in as only the base is screwed to the wall. Not clear which wires were which in my existing bell - so had to use multimeter / 5mins of trial and error to establish which existing wires were transformer and which were bell push. (Can confirm it does need the CR2032 button battery to operate in "transformer mode", Byron website itself is inaccurate, whereas description of this item on Amazon doesn't claim "battery-less" option). Some reviewers elsewhere finding only 2 weeks battery life may have connected via bell push and possibly connecting across solenoid terminals may be able to give the converter a bit of usable voltage? That said one reviwer says they've has 10 years use on one battery.
