I was not sure my underpowered lathe would be able to handle carbide. I did get some chatter, actually a lot, due to the part length and expected the carbide to chip out or just not cut very well. To my surprise I was able to make .020 deep cuts per side, got a nice curly chip, and the insert stayed sharp throughout the entire job. I did try a hss bit just to compare results but these tools cut better. Great buy, nicely packaged, very durable, and accurate. The 3/8" size is also nice for smaller lathes. Highly recommended.
