I'm editing this review because I discovered a fix to the problem. I increased my rating from 2 to 4 stars. This is a great controller with a fatal flaw (can be avoided). The form factor is great, the case is well constructed, very convenient and fast set up. I had two ESP8266 based controllers, one failed. They are a bit slow to respond so I wanted to upgrade to the faster ESP32 chip. The controller boots up quickly, the configuration is easy, I connected the LEDs and was operating within minutes. All the functions work well. RGBW control works and all the effects. Multi segment configuration work well. There is some unknown bug with this controller. I tried three different ones and they all do the same thing. After configuring the lights they turn off spontaneously by themselves. The delay is variable from 1-2 minutes to approximately 15 minutes. Always a short duration. The timer and nightlight functionsmwere not active. There has to be some kind of hardware bug. The ESP8266 controller will stay on indefinitely until commanded off. Additional experimentation determined the power inside momentarily cycled off, turning off the lights. I tried three different power supplies with the same results. Those power supplies run the ESP8266 boards fine. Update: This behavior is tied to the ESP32 chip itself and the way it handles wifi. It may not experience this behavior in all networking environments. The controller is being "over polled" by my network, causing the controller to reboot and return to the default state. The rebooting DOES NOT HAPPEN if the controller operates by itself, not connected to external wifi. The fix: If you have this controller connected to your wifi network, and it is spontaneously rebooting as I described above, you can prevent this behavior by deleting out the "mDNS" URL name in the WiFi Settings section. This means to interface with the controller you'll have to use the IP address, there will be no named domain for it. I think the over polling was caused by my network DNS constantly matching up the mDNS domain and the IP address and forcing the controller to reply constantly to the DNS requests.

Note: Default password is WLED1234 in case you're using ios. Works well and nice packaging, but selling this alongside non-addressable led strips from their store is confusing as this does not support PWM (so you can't dim or control single-color, CCT, etc. lights). Should make this more clear for buyers - took me forever to figure this out. (update): customer service reached out and seemed genuinely eager to clear up this confusion for future buyers and thanked me for the feedback. They also noted that they do have a PWM compatible controller. I'm changing the review to 5/5 because this product *is* great, I just hope they follow through with updating their product pages to make it clearer/easier for future buyers.
