Review: The cheapest and easiest way to replace the ball joint! - It should not cost $60 just in parts to replace an entire vacuum head, when all that’s broken is the cam a screw fits into. Dyson is even more over-engineered than you thought. Literally, the only way to replace the plastic joint, short or cutting it or the wires, is to disassemble THE ENTIRE HEAD, until the internal parts are small enough to thread through the joint. Luckily, there’s a few video tutorials online. This option is cheaper and less wasteful than going through Dyson repair centers, but it’s going to take some moderate tinkering. (Think an advanced model build or a really tiny IKEA purchase.) If you can handle that, it works beautifully—and the non-OEM part has an improved design that reinforces the spot where the retention screw attaches!
Review: Did the job just fine. Experience needed. - If you're a tinker, organized (a lot of screws), and patient, you'll be fine. I imagine a novice would get easily frustrated and perhaps break something.. I fixed my wife's Dyson in about an hour. The wheel screws it came with were too long, I used my own. I piloted all the screw holes slightly prior for an easier fastening. For me, the hardest part was removing the little electrical plug prong clip. It's held in by a pinch snap and doesn't just slide out. There's no real access to release it, however, I used my own long thin torq driver to reach inside from the bottom and push the snaps up. Once they're free, it will pull out just fine. It's not a piece of cake, but it wasn't difficult either. I would easily do it again. It did the job so I would recommend it.

The screw holes were so small the screw’s would not work and the screw heads stripped out. I had to give up and just order a whole new head.
