That is what converts from hi to low impedance. It is kind of like a gear box for mechanical things. **Q: Is there any documentation for this available anywhere ?** A: Not really. It’s a simple device. It converts a 1/4 inch cable to an xlr signal. This really is not a preamp, but rather a simple box to allow you to plug in a phone type of jack input as on most guitar cables into this box and then use a XLR type of cable as on most microphone cables as an output into your PA system. There are similar products that are "active" "Direct Boxes" that offer the feature of a preamp...they will give you the boost you are looking for from your passive pickup.
