Handy, helpful bluetooth music button!
I have an old car. I often play music from my phone 6S through the car speaker or through a bluetooth speaker. I have my iphone mounted on the dash, but it's not convenient to change songs while driving. It's one thing to push radio buttons on the dash, but it's harder to reach over and push virtual buttons on a phone screen while driving. So this Satechi Bluetooth Media Button helps tremendously. You can see in the photo how perfectly it mounts on my steering wheel. It doesn't get in the way at all while turning. There could be some improvements, such as making it easier to feel what I'm pressing without having to look, but I'm getting used to it. Sometimes I hit pause when I mean to hit forward. But that's a small issue. This button is much easier to use than having to reach over to tap a virtual button on my iphone. It paired easily and wakes up easily. I like how easy it is to pop it off and toss it in the glove box when I park. Some of the comments by other reviewers make lots of sense. I also wish they'd either included a tiny screw driver for help in changing the battery when that time comes or made it easier to open the back. Anyway, it's attractive, functions perfectly, makes driving safer, and it's really fun to have some new technology in my old Bug! As a plus, the media button works well with taking photos and videos with my iphone. Just like on my iphone, you can use the volume up or down buttons to take a photo. And you can also start and stop recording a video the same way. I like having a remote button to play with the next time I'm taking photos with friends. I have one bone to pick with Satechi. The size of this media button is obvious from the photos, yet the dimensions listed on Amazon and on the Satechi site are totally wrong! They list the diameter of the button accurately, but the other dimensions are way off! I don't know why. Doesn't make sense. Fortunately the pictures give you a good idea. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase. It's fun to use. Time will tell how long it lasts.

Awesome little remote for my motorcycle.
First of all, I was surprised that there aren't as many of these bluetooth remotes out there. That being said, this one would probably be the best designed anyways. Pros: Small and compact Aesthetically pleasing Functions as advertized Cons: Hard to push pairing button Steering wheel mount diameter is to big for my motorcycle handlebars (not a real complaint since that's not the design, but something for them to think about if they come out with a newer model) The unit looks great and functions as it should. The button in the back which is the pairing button is a little hard to push but other than that I have no legitimate complaints. I bought this for my motorcycle so I could control my music in my bluetooth helmet without taking my hands off of the handle bars. The steering wheel attachment is awesome and I used it to help mount it to my handlebars. My handlebars diameter is slightly smaller than a steering wheel which allowed it to spin freely so I used some thick foam tape to bulk it up and then rapped the base up to keep it from spinning due to the vibrations. I think this company would do much better with this product if they targeted motorcycles as well. I'm not sure how it will hold up to water, but then again, I don't plan to ride in the rain. However, if it happens, I will update. Addition: I'm using this with a samsung galaxy note 4. This product pops up as a keyboard on my phone. Works with amazon mp3, slacker radio, iheart radio and Google music app. June 4th 2015 update! So after a few months of use, this little guy is still going strong, I use it a lot and it seems very tough. I will update again if it breaks anytime soon. With that being said, I got caught in the rain a couple weeks ago, which was light to moderate shower and it held up just fine. Also yesterday I was near the beach and in the morning my bike (including the button) was covered in a heavy, heavy dew. After the ride home today, I think it's in the clear as its still working fine with no deficits. But again, only time will tell. Bottom line? 4 of my riding buddies have bought one since I got mine and they all love it and you will too. Good job Satechi.

Brilliant little device but sucks the battery life out of you
I'm really surprised there aren't more products like this available. I had to search high and low for something like this. After using it for two days, I'm super happy. I've been abroad for many years and only returned to the States recently and discovered that changing music on a touchscreen iPod is not as easy as it used to be with my old iPod that had the wheel. Since I connect my iPod via an aux cable and not bluetooth, I needed something that would give me physical buttons and easy access to switch through tracks as I drive. The color of this little media button blends in perfectly with the black interior of my car. I used the attachment to secure it to my steering wheel although it took me a few attempts to find a place on the steering wheel where it wouldn't get in the way of turning. Sometimes when I haven't touch the button in a while or when I've just gotten back in the car with the iPod, I need to press a button twice before it'll do want, as if to wake the device up. Hopefully I continue to be just as pleased. Edited to add: After about a month of using this button, my iPod died a sad death. Because of the numerous problems I've had with Apple devices, I started to use a Samsung device with this button. On an Android device, you need to download an app that ensures that the bluetooth will automatically connect it with the button when the bluetooth is turned on. It's not as responsive or as fast with the Android device as with the iPod unfortunately. I find the best way to do it is to get in the car, press any button on the button a few times to wake it up (when I see the blue light), then turn on the bluetooth on my Android device and let it automatically connect to the button. Even then, when it is connected, if I have push something on the button a few times to wake it back up so that it can control the media player properly. I'm taking away a few stars because it's got to work better with Android devices. Edited to add - I've had this device for just about a year now and I have to say, while it does the trick, I am tremendously disappointed with and annoyed by the battery life. 2 years my ass. In one year I've gone through 3 batteries and I use this device sparingly. I find this to be highly irritating!

Goes to sleep after 10 minutes or so
Edit: I've discovered that some of the settings on my Android music player app were interfering with the Bluetooth commands being sent from this remote. The new behavior is: After not using the remote for 10 or 15 minutes, it takes about 6 seconds for the first button press to be recognized by the Android device. This command works, it just has a delay of about 6 seconds. After that, all button presses are recognized almost instantly and work as you'd expect. Then, 10 to 15 minutes after your last button press, this cycle repeats. It's not perfect, but it's not so bad either. I'm adding back another star in my rating. I might buy this device again; I'm on the fence. It could still benefit from a more secure mounting method for steering wheels and handle bars like my watch band mod described below. Original Review: This mostly works as advertised, but it has a couple of flaws I wish I'd known about. The biggest one is that it goes to sleep after 10 to 15 minutes of not being used. This makes some kind of sense, as it's battery powered. But this is not mentioned in the product description. In practice, this means that, if you don't use any buttons for 10 minutes (maybe 15), then next time you press a button, nothing happens. The blue light flashes, but the command is not received by the device. After about 8 seconds, the remote is connected to the device again, and *then* you can press a button and have it work. For me this means that I'm constantly having to "wake up" the remote in case I want to use it again. Otherwise, my next button press does nothing and I have to wait 8 seconds for it to wake up, then press the button again. A minor issue I had is with the steering wheel mount. It's made of a rubbery plastic that's nice. But it's grip on a typical steering wheel diameter is only moderately strong. It's very easy to knock it off. I had the remote go flying in my car 5 or more times in the first 2 weeks. Finally, I modified it by cutting slots in the ends of the mount and threading velcro straps through the slots. Now it's like a velcro watch band. I secured my DIY watch band to my steering wheel, and now it is very strongly secured and doesn't go flying when I bump it as I go around corners in my car. My "watch band mod" would be a great product feature straight from the factory. Overall, it's a decent product. It's well made and mostly does what it says it does. But I wouldn't buy it again.

Love using it for Track Control with Carplay
Many cars either have no steering wheel, skip/prev track controls, or have controls that don't support CarPlay. (eg. Several new Mercedes, and others have steering wheel controls that don't support CarPlay, and my Porsche Panamera supports forward track or back track, but not both) This means that with one of those cars, whenever you're using Maps and need to skip forward or back, You've got to leave maps in carplay, go to the audio app, tap the on screen skip controls until you find the right spot or track, and then return to maps. (Too much time with the eyes on the screen) Siri works for this, but IMO its too disruptive. I use the audible app all the time and this is a very big deal for me, since I very often need to skip back to catch something I missed. I found a solution that works perfectly for me: Satechi Bluetooth Media Button, a bluetooth audio controller. It's really working beautifully. It is battery operated, with no wiring to install, just that little button. The MFR claims the battery will last two years. You just pair it to your iPhone and you're done. They include a steering wheel attachment, if you want to go that way, and a non destructive sticky pad which you can use to attach it to any small flat surface (As in the Photo). It also has a pause button in the center, which is a nice plus, and works well when pausing any audio app I've tried. You can use it entirely by feel without ever looking at it. Because it talks to your phone, rather than the car's head unit, it should work with any car, and any head unit. I'm using it with my iPhone XS Max. Two minor imperfections to note: 1) In order to achieve their long battery life, it automatically goes to sleep after about 10 minutes. The next time you press ANY button on this remote it wakes up and reconnects with the phone. But that first click after it's sleeping will be ignored by the phone (for its intended purpose). Just wait about a second after that wake-up click, and its ready. At this point you can click as many times as you want, as quickly as you want, and every click works perfectly. 2) The volume doesn't work because this remote is controlling the iphone volume (as would any bluetooth controller), and CarPlay volume is totally independent of iPhone volume. We all have usable volume controls in the car so it's not an issue, but if you want to use this for adding CarPlay volume control to your steering wheel, this won't do it. I have to say I'm delighted with little device.

Meh, there's a cheaper/better media-button (IMO) at 1/3 the price
Meh....I like the $11 iSunnao media-button better - it's more user friendly and better looking (except that it has a square form-factor). I was going to use the Satechi button in my car because I prefer the round button in my car aesthetically, but now I'm not sure, the iSunnao would likely be safer since you can feel the button difference plus it has FFWD / RWD & Satechi does not....Safety and functionality are more important than aesthetics so I may pull the iSunnao out of the livingroom into the car and move the Satechi inside...bummer as it means no RWD/FFWD in the house now. Pros: round form factor & color Cons: - Icons are even worse than in the website pic -- The Play/Pause icon is so squished it pretty much looks like a sideways equal sign "|}" rather than what it should be ("׀ >" or better yet "►/ ׀׀" ) - all buttons are on the same piece of plastic and there's no lump to let you know where your finger is (like on a keyboard) so you have to look to make sure you press the correct action. [iSunnao buttons are all separate and you can feel the difference without looking] - No Rewind or Fast-Forward (holding < or > will result in you jumping a dozen tracks fwd or backwd instead) [iSunnao will FFWD & RWD] - Echo of others complaint....need to remove from mount and use a toothpick to pair it - BUT it's only really a concern if you try syncing to a new phone while driving...[iSunnao button just has you Hold the play/pause button - much simpler] The Satechi is OK....Works fine - just know the differences before you choose.

It just works...
I was hesitant to purchase a $ 29.00 device I only wanted so I can turn my iPad Pro/Iphone sound up and down. But I could not be happier with it. It was super easy to pair and has worked now without a hitch for a week +, daily use. If I run into any snags, I will update this review. My use case was originally mostly to adjuste the sound volume of my live cable news shows (through a youtube tv subscription) while driving. (Older vehicle...) When I mute my ipad/iphone during their annoying ad segments, it just stops the broadcast and restarts it at the same spot when I turn the sound back on... Fumbling with a phone/ipad to turn down the volume, (which does not stop the broadcast...), while driving is dangerous. With this cute little Satechi button securely snapped onto my steering wheel, I don't have to take my eyes of the road to reach them and I can easily and gradually lower the sound. (A lower sound does not stop the commercial in progress, like a mute does) Of course I am now also using it at home while listening to Music/Podcasts to skip a song and to raise and lower the volume. It is small, very portable. Feels solid, well made, minimal, stylish. If it was white, one could mistake it for an apple gadget. But because it is small and I am prone to loosing small gadgets easily, I leave it in this great steering wheel clip-on thingy. It fits snugly into it, but also comes out easily when needed. A thin lanyard, which I also attached to it, was also in the box. I am so happy with it, that I just might to get a second one for another location and leave the first one in my vehicle. Highly recommend it. Will update though, if I find anything to criticize.

Works perfectly as intended for my Samsung S9. A literal life saver!
Small, sleek and well designed. Because of my car setup, I keep my phone attached to my window mount and it becomes a bit out of reach when driving. It's too dangerous for me to keep stretching out my arm for the sole purpose of changing a song. This has resolved this issue. This came with a small charm/necklace lanyard which is always a nice feature, although I dont need it. The steering wheel attachment is excellent. My only concern is the lack of a strap to secure the open end. I feel like its very possible to fling this off your wheel and out your window in the right circumstances, but overall it has a very solid grip. Once you position it correctly, it's feels like much less of an obstruction. I chose to have it right next to where I grip my wheel the most, so it's very easily accessible with my thumb and I don't have to move my hands off the wheel. Because of the simplicity of the product, it also can be used by left handers as well, although I am right handed. Just something to note. The packaging and instructions were also a nice touch. It doesn't take much to be a bit more thoughtful about your overall design, and Satechi has taken pride into their box design just as much as their product and it shows. My only gripe with this is that at the end of the day, it's only a small bluetooth controller. I can't necessarily say I think it's worth 30, even though its works great, but in a sea of complete garbage that is Amazon nowadays, it stands out from the rest. So in this case, I consider it a solid purchase. Just as a side note: I did not encounter the issue with the keyboard and not being able to type while it is in use. I sent a text, looked up address, messaged people on instagram, all no problem. Perhaps try switching the system keyboard if you encounter the error. I didn't need to do anything. As for de-sync, it takes less than 10 seconds to reconnect at most. If you cannot deal with waiting 10 seconds, then reconsider buying any sort of bluetooth remote.

Great media button!
I am a cyclist and cannot recommend this product highly enough. Fits easily to the handlebars. I had no difficulty connecting to my iPhone with bluetooth. The buttons are effective on a bumpy trail even with gloved hands.
