For beginners, and people seeking to develop their classical guitar skills, the Santos Martinez SM80 is a fantastic value intrument Review: Grain Blemishes & poor return information - I looked forward to this guitar, only to find that the guitar face had a knot blemish below the bridge, and 3 others around the bridge, although less noticeable. The small knot in the grain is noticeable and would prove a hindrance should I decided to resell at a later date. As it looks like a dent, or punch from the inside on an otherwise fine, clean grained body. Some slight scratches on the back of the body, but very thin and slight. Tone is ok, playability ok. Sent it back. Review: Punches above its weight! - These are well made and good value. They have a good tonal balance and clarity for detailed playing. Basses are not overpowering and the solid spruce soundboard will allow the guitar to mature and develop its tones over time. Mine has needed some Danish oil on the fretboard after a few years as it was looking a bit dry. Very easy to do with the strings off and a little attention to the frets with fine wire wool to brighten them up a bit. No structural problems have developed as often happens with classical guitars. I understand these are made in China. This is not to the detriment of these guitars as some beautifully made instruments are created there. Certainly there are no shortcuts with quality and attention to detail.
