To safely practice dry fire or reloading drills with the magazine in place, the slide needs to operate without being locked back by the follower. For immediate action drills (tap, rack, fire) the operator needs to be able to reseat the magazine in the pistol, rack the action, and then accomplish the dry fire exercise. These practice drills normally require the use of β€œdummy” rounds. Besides the nuisance of having to load and pick up the ejected dummies, there is always the chance that a live round can be introduced. The TRT allows the operator to practice the drills without using dummy rounds and eliminates the possibility of accidentally loading a live round during the exercise. When loaded into an empty magazine, the TRT will position the follower so that it will not engage the slide stop. Its low profile allows the slide to pass over it without stripping it from the magazine. For practicing reloading, start with an unloaded magazine to lock the slide back. At the start signal release the empty magazine and insert the magazine with TRT. Drop the slide and complete the dry fire snap on target. With immediate action drills, start with the TRT magazine not completely seated. Dry fire the action and upon the β€œclick” of the hammer or striker, seat the magazine, rack the slide, and complete the dry fire action. For standard dry fire practice with magazine seated, simply insert magazine with TRT and operate the slide to cock the action before each presentation and dry fire. To remove the TRT from the magazine use a pencil or any small tool and engage the small port molded in the top of the TRT. The Shield is one of the very few 9MM pistols that has a reverse indention in the follower. To make the 9MM TRT work you need to remove about a 1/4" of the nose. Have no idea how to use these? Is the firing pin supposed to hit it, is it supposed to eject?** A: Just insert it into a empty magazine like you were loading a live round. All this does is just pushes down the follower. This will not get picked up by the extractor so it will not eject it. Also the firing pin will not hit it. Now once inserted into the mag, insert mag into the gun and now you can manipulate the slide for trigger rest w/ no empty mag lock back. **Q: I made a wrong question. i am talking about dummy rounds. can i install the trt with magazine full of dummy rnds or should i take out one dummy round?** A: The TRT is a kind of dummy round so needs a space at the top of the magazine. These will not eject or chamber if you rack the gun. They are meant to keep the slide lock from engaging if you are practicing with a magazine. **Q: Will this function properly in a Springfield Hellcat "1.5 stack" magazine?** A: Yes it will. Works as designed in either single or double stack. It just compress the follower down about 1/4 inch for free manipulation of the slide w/ trigger reset. **Q: Does it prevent the magazine from being loaded?** A: No it does not. The slide will not lock to the rear if the training aid is installed. Be sure you differentiate the training aid from Glock's newer "orange" magazine followers. I actually almost loaded a full 10 round magazine on top of the training aid thinking it was the orange follower. I was able to load 9 rounds and every round fired with no issues. But after the last round, the slide never locked to the rear. Upon further investigation after firing approximately 150 rounds, I had finally noted due to my inattentiveness, the training aids were still in two of my magazines. Upon removal, all was normal with the slide locking back after the last round.
