Effective!
I’ll be honest, I don’t love this particular kind of illustration myself, BUT my 1.5 yr old daughter loves this book and really understands the concept of ”calm down” now that we’ve read it several times over. She loves to point out the mommy, daddy and baby and she practices taking deep breaths with me when we get to that part. Surprisingly a big hit and also effective (for us) at teaching this concept!

My toddler loves this book
My little one loves this book and also helped him understand how to calm his emotions once he gets upset, he takes a deep breath and does what the monkey does to help him feel calm definitely recommend

nice drawings but short on plot
It's a nice book, but a bit short on story for our 5 year old - maybe better for 2-3 yr olds to understand anger etc

Kind of a dud
We were disappointed with this book. Didn’t like the refrain of “calm down little monkey” because, as anyone who has ever been directed to “calm down” when they’re feeling upset can tell you, it’s not a helpful comment. We often incorporate lines from our frequently read books into our daily conversations with my toddler and I don’t want “calm down” to become a regular. The pictures are a little weird—back of the monkey’s head or an odd angle where the money is looking straight up and we can’t see the full face— maybe an older child would get it but for a younger toddler I’m not sure that seeing the back of the monkey’s head is helpful when trying to learn about emotions. Showing the facial expression seems like it would be more useful and interesting. Some kids books aren’t stellar but at least they have a rhythm or rhyme and this one doesn’t have much to offer in that regard either. All around kind of a dud.
