Non ci volevo credere fino a che non l'ho provato. Non potevo credere che un "aggeggino" da poco meno di 80€ potesse sostituire un DAP da centinaia di Euro. Eppure... Ovviamente non l'ho ancora testato a fondo e soprattutto non ho fatto paragoni (e non intendo farli) con il mio costoso DAP. In effetti il motivo principale per cui l'ho acquistato e stato un mix tra curiosità e necessità, nel senso che a quel prezzo vale la pena acquistarlo per dare un po' di brio alla scarsa potenza degli smartphone. E in questo senso non sono stato deluso. La prova. Per il primo testo ho utilizzato il mio Samsung A54 utilizzando HF Player della Onkyo come lettore audio (versione a pagamento per sbloccare la riproduzione in Alta Definizione dalla porta USB) e la cuffia Sennheiser HD380Pro collegata alla porta sbilanciata Jack 3.5. Dopo una falsa partenza la cuffia ha incominciato a spararmi nelle orecchie "Hell bells" degli AC/DC che per virtù alfabetiche è la prima canzone della playlist. E qui ho potuto notare uno strano comportamento... per pilotare il volume al meglio di questo dongle ho dovuto portare a zero il volume dello smartphone ed affidarmi esclusivamente al controllo volume posto sul dongle stesso. Non so se dipenda dall'app utilizzata, dal dongle o da un mix dei due, ma alla fine funziona : suono bello forte e chiaro. A questo punto passo alla prova successiva: stesso smartphone, stessa app musicale, stesso brano ma cuffia diversa: questa volta utilizzo una Sennheiser HD660S2 collegata alla porta bilanciata Pentaconn da 4.4. E anche stavolta ho ricevuto una notevole pressione acustica. Come per la maggiorparte dei DAC esistenti sul mercato, anche questo ha un LED che cambia colore in base alla frequenza di campionamento del file che si sta ascoltando. Non essendo specificato sul manuale (che tra l'altro non riporta la lingua italiana) ho cercato in rete e ho trovato che "si illumina di rosso a bitrate elevati, si illuminano di verde a circa 96kHz e si illuminano di blu a bitrate più bassi". Non per ripetermi, ma paragonare questo dongle al mio DAP sarebbe ingiusto... a parte il volume non esiste nessun altro parametro che è possibile settare. Non c'è nessuna app del produttore da installare... colleghi il cavetto USB-C e basta. Considerazioni finali. Questo dongle sopperisce alla mancanza di potenza che affligge la quasi totalità degli smartphone attuali. Se si utilizzano cuffie che hanno un'impedenza superiore ai 32 Ohm, se non si vuole spendere fior di quattrini per l'acquisto di un device dedicato (DAP) e soprattutto se si vuole conservare l'uso in mobilità, questo dongle fa al caso vostro, ma non aspettatevi prestazioni da Hi-End, dopotutto è un prodotto economico. E comunque bisogna tenere conto di un piccolo problema... come tutti i dongle "succhia" energia alla batteria dello smartphone, quindi prima di portarselo in giro, fate delle prove per capire quanto ci mette a scaricarla completamente e di fatto rendere inutilizzabile anche il telefono. La durata varia in base a tanti fattori: capacità stessa della batteria dello smartphone, frequenza di campionamento del file che si sta ascoltando e dulcis in fundo l'impedenza della cuffia utilizzata. In rete ho trovato un recensore (americano o inglese...) che afferma di essere riuscito ad avere 4 minuti di audio per ogni percento della batteria utilizzando file con campionamento "like CD", e cuffia con impedenza media. Non ha riportato però quale fosse la capacità della batteria. Il calcolo ve lo faccio io: 400 minuti dal 100% a 0%, ossia circa 4 ore e 36 minuti di ascolto. Beh... non male. Condizioni delle mie prove.
