These little lanterns put off a powerful light, and the handles swing up to make carrying them or hanging them when in use. They do not come with batteries, so I suggest you check your on-hand supply and add them to your order if needed. They take 3 AA batteries per unit, so 12 for the 4 pack I ordered. It would be much easier to install the batteries before the lanterns are needed in a black out. Haven't tried the solar feature, but it makes sense for a natural disaster when you would want to conserve the batteries.

I am really pleased with these little lamps. There are multiple ways to charge them - batteries, usb cable, or just sit them out and let them soak up solar light or just your household electric lights! I charged a couple with the usb cable, but the other two I just set out and they absorbed light from my overhead lights and were just as bright! These have a nice compact design, such that you can set them in multiple rooms of your house to have ready should your power go out! And when you turn them on, they are so bright!

The packaging is quite plain, but the lanterns are well protected and arrived without any damage. The product description said that there would be four lanterns and there were four, but it also said that there would be one USB charging cable but there were two. Can't complain about that. It uses the older micro USB connector, which most people probably have in a junk drawer somewhere. I received them just before the arrival of a hurricane, so I wanted all of them to be fully charged, so I dug through that junk drawer for an extra two cables and charged them all at once. Pros: These are easy to operate and are very bright. The included Li-ion battery charges quickly and can be backed up by three commonly available AA batteries. The instructions say that the Li-ion battery is used first and then the AA batteries will be used. Cons: For such an inexpensive lantern, I only came up with one negative. It doesn't seem to be mentioned in the Amazon product description, but the included instructions mention that the internal L-ion battery can only give one hour of light when charged off the little solar panel and a full charge with the USB cord will only give two hours of light. It's understandable for such a bright light that the battery won't last long, but most flashlights or lanterns will have several brightness settings (high, medium and low), with the lowest setting providing light for much longer. Suggestions for improvement: Add a dimmer function to prolong the battery life. Make the 18650 battery user accessible to allow the user to swap out with charged a 18650 battery. Over all I like these small lanterns and hope that we don't need them for power outages. I'll be sure to take them along on camping trips. The can easily recharge off a car's built-in USB ports. Upgrade to the newer USB-C charging cable. I'd like to see all our chargeable devices on one standard!
