I purchased this product to replace an insulated mug I had previously owned. Perhaps it was my mistake but this is NOT an insulated mug for keeping drinks hot or cold. For example, I poured boiling water into it and the outside was immediately too hot to touch. It has been a very good thermal mug until, at the end of October 2013, the handle fell off. The mug has always been carefully washed by hand, never in the dishwasher. Underneath what seems to be a sturdy handle are only two small spot welds that have corroded and fatigued. I was lucky that it was not full of scalding liquid at the time.
