It is touted as being a close alternative to sugar, but in reality, is still broken down by the liver into toxic chemicals. However, after looking at the ingredients of several brands, I was coming to the conclusion that I probably wasn't going to find one without any type of artificial sweetener in it. So I ordered it anyway as my need for additional protein at this time, was more important than any long-term health implications there may or may not be. I put a couple of scoops in a blender with two banana's and a handful of raspberries and filled it up with whole-fat milk. It tasted fine and seemed to compliment the natural ingredients used, except for one thing, it was far too sweet. So much so that it somewhat overpowered some of the sweetness of the natural fruits present, which was a little disappointing but still enjoyable, nevertheless. After a couple of days of using this stuff the sweetness of this stuff is starting to bug me. You know there is sweet and there is SWEET. But this is ridiculously sweet.
