I could force the cycle manually, but was only successfully getting ice on occasion. Instead of continuing to mess with it, I found this third-party compatible replacement. It was a quarter of the cost of the actual unit. There were no instructions included. It does come with screws and a small mounting bracket, if your freezer uses 3 screws instead of 2. Our model only used 2. Found a YouTube video on how to replace the unit (before purchasing it, so I basically knew what to do). I would recommend finding one, just so you know what your doing. The overall process was easy. The hardest part is the 2 screws needed to remove the old unit are not in the most easy to access location. I found using a screwdriver with a socket adapter made it easier than using a flat head (screws supported either). Once it was unscrewed, there is a single cluster of cables that needs to be unhooked. The new unit plugged in easily and again the hardest part was the screws. It basically hangs on the screws. I was able to insert the screws into the freezer first, then slip the new ice maker over the screw, then tighten. You do need to also make sure the water dispenser from the freezer is completely inserted in the cup at the end, so the water will go in the ice maker and not all over the freezer. The ice maker will not run until the freezer is back up to temperature. About an hour after installing the new unit, we heard the water run. Less than an hour later, we heard the sound of ice being dumped in the tray. Roughly every hour or so, we've continued to hear ice being dumped. So in the short-term, the new ice maker seems to be working flawlessly. Will update review if that changes, but so far it is working great. That's what we did. It is a very simple item to change. Took only 10 minutes. There is 2 screws on the side of it that you have to loosen and 1 modular plug with wires in the back of it that unplugs and 1 leveling screw and bracket on the bottom that will level it if you need to. It will take at least take 24 hrs to get ice you can use. It has to purge air and will take that long. It says to throw 1st batch of ice cubes away. Plug and play. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works great *by A***R on July 5, 2025* I've used it a while. It still makes some hollow ice cubes. After $500 in plumbing and $50 for a new filter, I wish I'd just bought the OEM ice maker too. This is just not that great. It's ok. It makes ice but a lot of it is still hollow. I have not requested a replacement from the seller, but I'm thinking I probably should. 3 stars. Meh. Update 8/28/2024. Replumbed the ice maker line with 3/4" copper to a 3/4" x 3/4" x 1/2" T, 1/2" copper all the way to the shutoff valve and normal braided flexible hose from valve to refrigerator. Water flow and pressure are now great to the refrigerator. Filter replaced as well. Ice maker is working better with some solid cubes, but still producing some hollow ones. It initally was making hollow ice cubes, but I checked my line and had very low water flow on the icemaker line. Replacing the water filter also did not resolve it. Replumbed the water line and its doing better, but not sure that's completely the issue. The old OEM ice maker was making solid cubes even with low flow, it just had a broken tang and sometimes jammed up. I need to let this one run and see how it does for 24-48 hours. On 8/24 I reached out to the seller as it was past the 30 day return period. (I was slow to install it.) They offered some links about things that might cause the hollow cubes, but also said they would replace the unit if I was convinced the problem was with the unit. So that's a positive on the support. I may or may not need to take them up on that. I'll review the links they sent to see if there is some adjustment I can make to the icemaker itself. If not, probably will request that replacement unit. It's making hollow ice cubes. The old one didn't do that, but it may be low flow into the refrigerator or other issues.
