Review: Good Torch. - A good torch, I'm glad I bought it. The light output is very good; the beam pattern excellent when going out walking, and also good for general purpose use. It is well made: and the battery life is far better, than on my older 3W LED torches, even though it has similar light output. The multi-mode switch did take a bit of getting used to, but I now have no problems with it. I found that I had to learn 2 tricks. Firstly, when turning it on, turn it till the light comes on, then continue to rotate the head that bit further, to ensure the switch has made a good contact, otherwise, it can jump between modes, when you do not want it to. Secondly, you have to get used to the timing needed, to use the multi-mode switch reliably; but after a few days of use, I have found this no problem. I may buy another to leave in my car.
Review: Excellent quality - I've always found the build quality of Maglite products to be excellent, this LED edition of the mini maglite is no exception. The LED bulb is considerably brighter than similar-sized torches using conventional bulbs, and should also allow the batteries to last longer. The product documentation says the LED maglite is not compatible with rechargeable batteries, which seemed like nonsense to me, and of course it did work as normal with Sanyo Eneloop and Duracell ActiveCharge AA NiMH batteries. The full, low power and flashing (SOS) modes work by twisting the torch on and off within a few seconds, to cycle through the available modes. I wonder whether some of the other reviewers criticising this product have accidentally switched it to one of the other modes and then assumed it had broken?

## Questions & Answers

**Q: The instructions state "use only alkaline batteries" and "not rechargeable." Has anyone used NI-MH rechargeable batteries? Results?**
A: Rechargeable batteries work, however keep in mind that because rechargeables are 1.2V each, and alkaline batteries are 1.5V, you will be running the battery at a total voltage of 2.4V instead the the 3.0V under which the flashlight was designed.  That means that you would be running the flashlight at a voltage of 80% less than it was intended.  You WILL notice a difference in brightness.  However, if that is not a problem for you it works just fine with rechargeable batteries.

**Q: I just got my flashlight and I like it so far, but I can't figure out how to turn on the SOS function and the flashing light function.  Any ideas?**
A: This flashlight has four functions: Steady, bright; steady, dim; flashing; flashing SOS. Each function is accessed by turning the flashlight on, off, and back on in rapid succession. For example, to access the dim function, turn the flashlight on then off then back on. On-off-on-off-on-off-on will put the flashlight in SOS mode. Have fun!

**Q: There are two different mini maglites is this the regular mini one or is this the one that is realy small? like the mini mini?**
A: The "mini mini" is called the solitaire. Uses a aaa battery.

**Q: What are the dimensions?**
A: When off, the case is 6-7/16" long.  Length increases by 1/8" as the lens is twisted from off to spot.   The case is 11/16" diameter at the batteries.  The lens/led assembly is 2-1/16" long, 3/4" on one end and 1/32" shy of an inch at the lens.

A good torch, I'm glad I bought it. The light output is very good; the beam pattern excellent when going out walking, and also good for general purpose use. The multi-mode switch did take a bit of getting used to, but I now have no problems with it. I found that I had to learn 2 tricks. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent torch

This is the 3 watt LED version of the Mini Maglite which takes two AA size batteries. The light output is 77 lumens, which is bright enough for general use (note that they do a Pro version which is rated at 245 lumens, and costs a bit more). This is a very solid a robust torch, and is unlikely to break if dropped. It should last a lifetime if looked after. The head part can be unscrewed by hand to reveal the LED, so that it can be used as a candle-like lamp. The tail end slots into the head, so that it will stand upright on a flat surface. Maglites are generally considered to be the best torches, and are used by the police and military.
