It's not a matter of white soles getting dirty, I just don't like the look. So of all the available colors, my only acceptable option is black. Disappointing. I'd like to see more colors with matching or maybe tan soles. **Q: can these be machine washed?** A: Yes, but I only wash mine in cool or cold water and let them air dry....Definitely DO NOT put them in the dryer. They will shrink up! If they take a long time to dry and smell a little off, you can Febreze them inside and out. Also you should clean the soles with something like the Magic Eraser before you put them in the washer. Hope this helps. **Q: Are the soles rubber or plastic?** A: They are rubber and very nice shoes. Run a little large . **Q: Can you use orthodics in these shoes?** A: I use cork insole inserts in mine. These are the only shoes I wear so I took them with me to my Podiatrist and she showed me how to pull out the insole that comes in the shoe and put the cork inserts in and then just lay the insole back down. Don't pull it up all the way, my inserts are just half the length of the shoe. Wonderfully comfortable, incredibly lightweight, great for light workouts or casual walking days. They do run a bit big, the 7.5 wide I wear in all other Skechers shoes is just enough roomier than usual that I'd be temped to try a half size down if I were keeping them. (Note that IME Skechers run small, so if you normally wear a 7.5 wide in other brands, these will probably be perfect to a bit tight.) All of that said, if you need arch support for whatever reason, you'll be better off picking something else. While these are great for padded comfort, they have little more arch support than my moccasin slippers. They're also quite flexible, so not the sort of thing to wear if you're recovering from a broken bone or torn ligament in your foot.
