Switching the MX G10M, then after about a minute switching it back on again, satellite lock happened in about 20 seconds.GPS data of elevation, latitude and longitude were shown in the camera and recorded to the EXIF of pictures taken by the camera, however no compass heading was shown, and I was unable to calibrate the compass in the camera settings.The MX G10M can be held by the camera hot shoe, but this is only a plastic food with no electrical connections. Power is not drawn from the camera, but from an internal rechargeable battery. Data is exchanged by a USB mini-B to USB mini-B short cable.There are two USB ports on the MX G10M, on USB mini-B data connector (same as data connecter on the camera) and one micro USB-B, the same as those found on most phones today, which is for charging. I therefore think that if the quoted 4-hour battery life is insufficient for your needs, a mobile phone power bank/charger could be used to keep the battery topped up on location.Would I recommend this product?At Amazon EU S.a.r.L.’s new price of Β£144, no! if however you can find an Amazon warehouse deal at around Β£50, absolutely.To use the gps data in my photos, I use the Canon β€œMap Utility for Windows” that came with my Powershot D20, this is available to download from the Canon website, but only works on photos taken on a Canon Camera. I used to take a photo on my D20 at the same time as I took one on a Canon DSLR and use this program to open both photos and copy across the gps data before I had the MX G10M.I will when I get time try the MX G10M on my Canon 70D & 760D as soon as I get time and report on how compatible they are.
