The Best Value For Money PS4 Headset - Must Have For PSVR
Overall after 9 months of use, I am very happy with this headset taking into consideration the retail price and quality of the product. What's in the box PS4 Gold Headset USB (type-A to micro-B) charging cable 3.5mm audio cable Wireless USB adaptor for PS4, PC and Mac. The Good Lightweight with solid build quality 7.1 Surround sound with 3D Audio when used with VR Easy to pick up and play with great adjustability & lack of wires 8 Hours of battery life The Bad Requires a USB Wifi dongle for wireless PS4 connectivity Become uncomfortable around the ears after roughly 2 hours of use Wifi dongle does not work very well with PC Sound Quality The sound quality is excellent for the price with balanced audio levels and fantastic virtual surround sound making it great for use in VR or shooting games such as fortnite or Apex. You can very clearly hear where bullets or footsteps may be coming from and that has helped tremendously with my recent games of Apex. With the companion app found on the PlayStation store, you can change the EQ settings for the headset and save preset sound modes on the headset. So if you play one genre much more heavily, for example, shooting games, you can tweak things for an even more enhanced experience. In regards to the surround sound effect, you only get virtual surround sound when using these headphones with VR or wirelessly with the PS4. If you use the 3.5mm jack with any other device this is only a stereo 2.0 headset. If you use these for music or movies they are good enough for the average user but don't expect to be blown away. I would have liked slightly more bass and depth for my own personal music tastes but I appreciate these are designed for games. Comfort These headphones have mechanically adjustable ear cups that clicks with each adjustment. They also stretch very easily without feeling like they will break so should accommodate all head sizes including when using them with the PlayStation VR headset. The ear cups are a soft leather material and do sit comfortably over the ears. Sadly though after around 2 hours of use, they do start to irritate around my ears and become uncomfortable. Microphone I have played in party chat on both PS4 and Xbox One with this headset and no one has ever had a problem hearing me talk and I am told I come through clear without distortion or breaking up. I also like the fact there is not a microphone wire in my face getting in the way, it makes these a very easy pick up and play headset to talk to people. Battery Life Sony estimate around 8 hours of battery life from this headset. This is something I would agree with, I don't play for very long gaming sessions anymore but rarely need to recharge it and have never completely run out of battery during a session unexpectedly. Similar to the PS4 controller, the PS4 will let you know when your headset battery is low which is helpful. Build Quality The build quality is very good, the headset is light but can be stretched and adjusted without worrying they are going to snap or break. The earcups have a soft foam padding that so far after almost 1 year of use do not show signs of becoming worn out. Please Note - Even though Sony advertise that the WIFI dongle also works with PC I would personally disagree. It does work and connects to my Windows PC without any problem but I had a major issue where I could not adjust the volume and the base volume was too quiet for my personal taste. This bug i could not find a fix for.

Great, but...
After using this headset for some time, I haven’t used many headsets that sound better than this one - the overall quality and surround sound is very good, as well as the build quality of the headset itself. However, the thing that really lets this down is the microphone - with it being a built-in microphone it isn’t very close to your mouth and the sound quality of your voice via this headset is comparable to a cheap pair of earphones for a mobile phone. When playing with friends, I’m having to use my old £30 headset instead as the microphone quality is far superior. If it wasn’t for the awful microphone, this headset would easily be 5* - this headset is amazing when playing solo but almost unusable when in a party chat trying to communicate with more than a couple of friends.

A great 'bang for your buck' headset
The PlayStation Gold Wireless Headset is one of the best value console headsets on the market, whether you're exploring worlds in PSVR, pwning nubs in a shooter, or simply chilling and listening to music whilst you play, the PlayStation Gold headset is a great option that offers plenty of 'bang for your buck'. --------------------------------------------------- The Good: - Superior audio quality compared to most headset of similar price - Wireless surround sound and wired 3D audio capability (PSVR) - Sleek, sturdy build quality, whilst also lightweight and comfortable for extended use - Matches PS4 design (PS logo/Gloss black plastic) - Angled ear cups (see photos) make for a comfortable fit (whilst also being handy to let you know whether you've got them on backwards) The Bad: - USB Wireless dongle required for wireless functionality (included in box) - Earcup controls are quite fiddly - Black gloss is a fingerprint magnet

Some improvement from the previous model
♦ Introduction ♦ The 'New Gold Wireless Headset' by Sony is a mid-ranged wireless headset that boasts a bang for your buck when it comes to quality; with '7.1 Virtual Surround Sound' and a bunch of other sound profiles available through the 'Headset Companion App', you can get the most out of your gaming sessions with audio tailored to your needs. I've owned every single model of Sony's Official PlayStation Wireless headsets and have seen them improve over the years. The original Gold headset otherwise known as the 'Wireless Stereo Headset 2.0' was one of my favourite headsets of all time: They were comfortable, offered decent audio quality and were available for a reasonable price. The 'New' Gold headset aims to improve on what is already considered a quality headset (averaging 4.3 out of 5 stars out of 1,400+ Amazon reviews). So what's different about the 'New' Gold headset? First of all, it has a more sleek, slimmer and lightweight design which I found to be a major improvement, however the compromise is to lose the folding design which made them easier to pack away; that said, there were complaints about the weak joints on the previous model if not treated with care, whereas you will not have to worry about that issue on this model. The design is now more suited for VR use, with the slimmer design, the headset doesn't get in the way of the VR headgear. Apparently, the microphones have been "upgraded" with hidden dual noise cancelling microphones as well as better audio from the headset altogether. There's been no real change with comfort (in a good way) because they're just as comfortable despite the ear-cushions not feeling as soft; even as a glasses wearer, I find these to be comfortable to wear, just like the older version. As for what hasn't improved... That would be the battery as you will get around 7 hours of use which is not that much better if at all than the previous model, which is a shame as the previous version came out 4 years ago! That's plenty of time to find a way to increase battery life, especially when other competitors have wireless headsets that can last around 15 hours; but is it a deal breaker? No, just a little disappointing. ♦ Box Contents ♦ ∙ NEW Gold Headset. ∙ USB Dongle*. ∙ Micro USB charging cable (very short). ∙ Stereo Cable (4 ft. length). ∙ Instruction Manual. *DO NOT lose the USB dongle as you cannot get a replacement; if you do lose it, you will have to use them via a stereo cable where you will also no longer be able to use the headset to its full potential. ♦ Headset Set-Up ♦ If you're using it with the VR, you will have to connect it to the VR in-line cable via the stereo cable, just like you would have to with any other headset when connecting to the VR. If you want to use it wired, plug it into the controller via the stereo cable (you do not need to turn the headset on, nor does the headset need power when using it these ways). - Wireless Set-Up: 1) Insert USB dongle into the PS4. 2) Power up the PS4 and log into your account. 3) Turn the headset on. 4) The PS4 should automatically connect to the headset. If there is no audio, go to the audio device settings and ensure they have been selected and that the audio is set to 'All Audio' not 'Chat Only'. Once everything is all set-up, if you're in a chat and you can only hear game audio but not your friends, the headset as a chat/game ratio button; press on the 'chat' side to bump up the volume in favour to chat. If you can only hear chat audio but not your game, do the same but ensure to press on the 'game' side. Once you're happy with the ratio, adjust the overall 'volume' button to your liking. If you want to hear yourself a bit whilst talking, the headset does have a sidetone feature which can be enabled by holding down the mute button for approximately a second; it's not the best sidetone I've had on a headset, but it does the job decently. ♦ Comfort, Range & Sound Quality ♦ If it's one thing I truly can't complain with, it's the comfort. With these being so lightweight and having decent pads along the headband and ear-cushions, this headset is extremely comfortable to wear. As a glasses user, I can vouch that I had no issues during a 2 hour gaming session. When it comes to range, providing there is NOTHING between the dongle and headsets line of sight, you won't have any issue in a decent sized living room, however put a shelf in the way and it struggles to the point I can barely go further than 2m without it cutting off. As for audio quality, it's nothing short of superb. The audio quality is crystal clear and has very decent directional sound which helped in games such as Fortnite. To me, the audio seemed extremely well balance and I have no complaints in that department. Finally, microphone quality... It's just average, very, very average. It's not bad but it's not exactly good either. My friends say I'm clear enough to understand which for most people is good enough, however if you're the type of person who likes share playing with your voice being recorded, you may be disappointed. ♦ Final Opinion ♦ The best features this headset has to offer are definitely comfort and overall game audio quality, but lacks in microphone quality and range. Overall, this is a decent headset available for what I believe to be a very reasonable price; I think most people will be happy with their purchase, but at the same time I can see how people may be equally disappointed, so do check the positive and negatives of this headset and see if it's the right one for you. ✔ Pros: ✓ Sleek & lightweight design. ✓ Durable build. ✓ Comfortable to wear for longer gaming sessions. ✓ Fantastic audio quality. ✓ Easy to use. ⸗ Neutral: - Battery not improved since last model. ✖ Cons: ✘ Poor wireless strength. ✘ Very average microphone.

Excellent headset
I had a lot of issues with my previous headsets (Kotion each G2600 and turtle beach ear recon 50p) where I would join a party or game chat. I could hear everyone. But they couldn’t hear me. After lots of effort chasing through settings and trolling through forums for answers I never found. I decided to go to a PS4 official headset. The box is well set out. You get the blurb booklets. A usb dongle. A audio jack (needed for the VR kit) charging cable and the headset.... usb dongle is just like any other usb stick. Straight forward plug and play. I haven’t used the audio jack as I don’t have the VR kit yet Charging cable is kinda small but not a massive issue. The headset is very comfortable to wear. The over the ear earpieces are a good size and they do not get hot when wearing On the left headset you have all the buttons. Mute microphone. Volume up and down. VSS (virtual surround sound) Sound/Chat up and down. This edits the volume from game and party chat. If you want to hear the chat more than the game or the game more than the chat. Then charging and jack ports.

Got them for my PS4 gaming habits
Bought these for prime day as well as had an additional five pounds off for which made these a steal. Thanks amazon for having a prime day and for lowering the price of the exact headphones I wanted. Sound is amazing and is so immersive whilst playing your games. Have been told by my online gaming friends that my microphone sounds much better compared to my previous headphones (as i have read bad reviews about the mic quality) and the headphones themselves are surprisingly light. Battery life on them is not an issue for me as I make it a point not to do whole day gaming sessions and the charge time is quick. Cons. The cones are as follows but are really small in the overall quality of the headphones. The buttons I would have liked to have felt a little more sturdy given the brand reputation and the asking price of the headphones normally. It would have been nice if it came with some type of holder to place your headphones on when not in use. Finally, if you do wear these for a fair amount of hours, they will start to tire out the area of your head surrounding your ears.

No Good For VR
Brought these as an alternative to my 2.0 Bose noise cancelling headphones to use with my VR headset. I thought the inclusion of 7.1 surround sound will further enhance the VR experience and being wireless was one less cable to worry about while flinging your arms around playing Creed Etc. Unfortunately they proved to be a bit disappointing. They look well made and sit comfortably on your head and cover your ears nicely. After that things go down hill a little. You need to plug a USB dongle in to your PS4 to use them wirelessly? I already have an external Hard drive in one port and normally have something charging in the other, so why these don't work natively via Bluetooth audio? Putting that disappointment aside I don my VR headset and load up Blood and Truth ready to be immersed in 7.1 surround sound while being blown away by 3D VR visuals. But ERM! NO! you are instead greeted with a message on screen telling you that the headset is not compatible with the VR headset and you must connect the 3.5mm male to male cable that comes supplied with the headset? Sadly when you do so you seem to be reduced to 2.0 sound with no noise cancelling? additionally none of the buttons on the headphones work once plugged in as the VR headset assumes all control? So how do they perform outside of VR? Well That is also a bit disappointing. Most TV speakers are poor so I imagine, like my self, most people opt for a sound bar. I have a Sony 5.1 sound bar connected to the TV. So now to use the headphones to best effect I have to mute the 5.1 sound bar so I can use the 7.1 headphones! Which seems a bit pointless? On the plus side when using the headphones for normal games they perform well, with sounds in Resident evil 2 remake appearing all around you. The Dolby atmos feature doesn't seem to make any difference which may be because I am not using an Atmos source? And to be fair I haven't had much luck with it via the sound bar either. All the controls (7) are on the left headphone so you do tend to fumble about a bit trying to hit the right button for volume etc. Installation was completely seamless but the headphone companion app was a bit pointless and I quickly uninstalled it. I don't feel I am any better off swapping my BOSE set for these SONY ones. At least I didn't spend an extra £50 on the Platinum edition.

Ouch my ears!!
Firstly please can I say that my ears are not big and they don't stick out... They are pretty much flat against my head. I was so excited when my new PS4 Gold Headset arrived. I plugged it in to charge ready for the evening of gaming I had been looking forward to after working late shifts all week. They were finally charged, the kids were in bed and I sat down. I plugged the USB dongle in and switched everything on... And relax I thought. Within 15 minutes of shooting people shouting at the spotty cheeky little teenagers who were running rings around me with their mates and their lightening fast reactions I felt a slight soreness on my left ear. No it wasn't my wife, it was the headphones. Within 30 minutes I was getting distracted having to move the earpiece every couple of minutes in order to stop the burning sensation on my ears. An hour later and I now had tears running down my cheeks. OMG these things were designed by the devil himself I thought. I pushed through the pain until I couldn't cope anymore. I ripped them off my ears and felt the immediate relief. When I looked in the mirror my ears were inflamed and bright red. I looked like the BFG (That's the Big Friendly Giant if you didn't already know). All I can say is if you are buying these as a present for someone you dislike then I highly recommend them. If you like S & M then I highly recommend them. If you don't want to look like the BFG or Yoda then DON'T BUY THEM! I'm a grown man and I don't cry very often but these really really hurt.

Not bad
Good for the purpose and quite cheap. Easy to install and the sound is excellent. Definitely not high end, but this is a solid price for the casual game and movie watcher. Not noise cancelling.
