desertcart.com: Addition Facts that Stick: Help Your Child Master the Addition Facts for Good in Just Six Weeks: 9781933339924: Snow, Kate, Pearson, Debra, Brewer, Corrin: Books Review: If your kid is struggling with understanding and knowing addition facts, buy this book! - My daughter has always been great at just simply memorizing things, but when I took a hiatus from her homeschool math curriculum to try just plain memorizing with addition, she struggled. Even after weeks of going over it we had not gotten too far at all. I was hesitant to take an even longer pause from the math curriculum to purchase this and do another 6 weeks, but I knew she needed something else to help her understand it. We are only on week 3 day 2 and she has shown SIGNIFICANT improvement on knowing addition facts instead of having to stop and count. So glad I purchased this and decided to pause and focus on getting her solid in her addition facts. I think it’s going to significantly help her going forward for all future math. I’ll probably end up buying the subtraction one also. The games are fun. My daughter had been dreading math because she was struggling, now she asks to do the math games even after we are done with our school work for the day. Also helpful hint , I tore out the worksheets and put them in laminated binder sleeves so she can do it with a dry erase marker and if I think she needs an extra day with one, I can have her redo it another day. Review: Way better than flash cards! - My seven year old is advanced in her reading and math scores but struggles with rote memorization and didn't know all of her addition facts entering in to second grade. My plan was to buy some flash cards and work on them with her but luckily I found this book instead. She LOVES it. She doesn't like when I teach her anything at home but each lesson at the beginning of the week is relatively short and not too painful (we agree to do five minutes of the lesson which gets is almost all the way there if she is on board and at that point she is fine with just finishing the lesson so we can get to the game). After that it's just playing a game and a quick worksheet (it takes her 1-2 min and she doesn't mind since she knows all of the answers after playing the game) each day! We do the game in the morning while chatting and eating breakfast so it's easy to fit in to our schedule and she really likes them so far. Just two lessons in and she has painlessly learned a bunch of her addition facts and improved in the rest. I peeked ahead and I just know she will like the rest of the games as well. (Sorry, couldn't wait to finish doing all of the lessons before reviewing because it's already such a hit). Some tips: I keep the game time fun and if I sense she is not feeling it, I don't push. Basically I ask her if she would like to play another round until either she gets tired or I have to cut her off so she can go to school. I also explained to her what the book was about and why it was worth doing at the beginning (and had to convince her memorizing addition facts is actually worth while as it will help her do more of the math she likes like solving for unknown integers with multiple equations). She liked reading about how/why the author developed her methods. Basically, I got her buy-in.

Master Math Facts While Having Fun
I love this series! I have purchased the addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division books. They have been a game changer for our homeschool. My daughter had really struggled with memorizing math facts before we began going through this series. Now we can do 4 or 5 digit math problems with ease. She loves to play the suggested games and will often play them with siblings.

This program works!
We've had great success and it's loads of fun. Simple and straight forward. Just open the book and begin. We really love the games. No boring drills. Learn through repetitive play. The program does require simple things such a deck of playing cards, and around 40 or so counters. I am very pleased with Addition Facts That Stick and highly recommend it. It's great for preparing upcoming first graders for transition to RightStart Math.

This book works!!
My soon to be second grader, who I homeschool, has been seriously struggling to grasp the basic addition and subtraction facts. I stumbled across this book and it was exactly what we needed! He has worked through all 6 weeks and has absolutely mastered the basics. He can now “visualize” the answers which is exactly what I hoped he would accomplish. This book has saved us from years and frustration and I’m looking forward to seeing how far he can go now that he truly knows the basics!

Lightbulb moment for my struggling son!
I bought this book in conjunction with Subtraction Facts that Stick by the same author. My 7 year old son did not struggle with the concept of addition but the execution was slow because he did not have his math facts memorized. I decided to just pause the other work we were doing with him for math and just drill down on his math facts to see if it would help. We finished up this book 2 weeks ago and started the next book, Subtraction Facts that Stick. As he was working on the subtraction facts he had never seen before, he was spouting them off because he made the connection that 8-5= 3 was easy now that he has 5+3 = 8 memorized. He looked at me with a huge smile and proclaimed that he now thinks math might actually be fun. I wanted to cry! This is the same boy who was also shedding tears-- of anger and frustration-- just a few months ago. Although the ah-ha moment of liking math now was declared during Subtraction Facts that Stick, it was because of Addition Facts that Stick that we got to that point. Each week consists of a lesson (very well written out and it tells you what to say and do) on day 1 as well as learning a simple math game. Days 2-5 each week they have a practice math sheet and you play the game. Unlike other math we were doing, he did not fight me or tell me it was too hard. Guys-- this is absolutely worth the money. I highly suggest it for any kids who are struggling with their relationship with math and addition facts!

The content of the book is great but the quality of the binding is extremely disappointing. The first few pages started to come off completely from the book after just a week of light use. Now I’m worried that all the pages in the book will come off as I have had to tape the pages that came off to hold them together.

The book is easy to follow, lessons are not to long and the games are a fun way to learn. The material needed are every things in the house.

Excellent book for kids and anyone who wants to understand how to count using the tens frame method. In Switzerland and Germany kids learn to count using similar methods in school. Therefore it is great for parents who speak English to get a clear explanation so they can teach and support their kids in school. It is also great for those who homeschool their kids.

This is an amazing book and program. It is exactly what my son needed. The activities are short enough and lots of fun, so it's easy to squeeze it in even on busy days. My son looks forward to them. I will definetly be going through all the series for all my kids. Thanks Kate! :)
