VERY Good Choice
1. MOST IMPORTANT!: The flap on this door is really good. You should know that some flaps on the crappy cat doors will grab a paw that is going through it and snag it, and the cat will get scared and try to rip their paw back, but then they'll get stuck - and hurt. With this door, that does Not happen: One of my cats is always trying to stick her paw through the door first, trying it out, and she pulls her paw back a lot and she never gets hurt. So that is very, very, Very important and this door does a Good job on that. 2. You'll want to make sure when installing, that you have the one side of it flipped correctly Upwards. If it's incorrect, facing downwards, you'll know because you won't be able to see or use the Middle Screw areas. 3. I think this could be better by being able to have the door cover on either side you wish. We installed ours going down into the basement. This means that the cover can only be on the basement side, not the living room side (because the pretty side should be facing the living room). Which means that if a bad person came into the basement all they'd have to do is lift up the door to be able to see everything inside the house. Not okay! A better way would be that you can have the door cover on either side of the door that you wish, so that if that was a problem for you, you could change it. 4. One thing that I would call a definite mistake is that when you install the door so that the pretty side is facing You, the words that are imprinted on it are backwards. So the words are correct for the side that's the ugly side, and that doesn't seem very smart. They words are faint, but still, it looks silly. 5. Speaking of the "ugly side", there should be no ugly side, right? BOTH sides should look nice. ...Because it's a door, and you're going to see BOTH sides. So that's something I would improve. They'd create a faceplate for the ugly side to make it pretty in the end. 6. With all of these points taken into account, I'm really happy with this door. It is safe for the cats, truly safe, and looks fairly nice, and was fairly easy to install, and I do believe it's going to hold up and be the QUALITY door we all need, expect, and deserve.

A great addition to the home!!
I didn't do the carpentry work, but I did supervise! It looked like the cutting and installation went very quickly and we did use the template to do the cutting which made things a lot easier and there were no problems. I had it installed into a solid wooden door leading down to the basement, so that I could keep the litter box down there. The frame of the cat door is white and stands out a little, but I feel like it fits well with the decor and does what it's supposed to. My cat is about a lean 12 pounds and gets in and out with no problem. The soft, magnetic flap makes it very easy for him to get in and out. There is also a removable plastic piece that you can slip in if you want to temporarily suspend access for one reason or another (people coming in and out of the basement to run propane lines, for instance!!) It did take my cat a few days to "get it"; maybe 2 full days (but he's not very smart...). I ended up taping the flap up for about 24 hours and enticing him back and forth with treats through the open hole, and then making a game when I finally un-taped it, throwing treats through the hole on both sides for him to retrieve and getting used to the flap. After maybe 4 days he was using it like a pro and he doesn't hesitate at this point, about 2 months later, but he DIDN'T get it right away so don't lose hope; just be patient. I'm extremely happy! **Update: 4 years later and 2 new cats have learned to use it! This has been an awesome tool and it has held up well from constant (multiple times per day!) use! The new cats are about the same size and aptitude level and 2 days seems about the norm.

Perfect on cats tails.
This product we used on a hollow closet door. My husband traced the actual piece that goes through the door not the panel the directions say to trace. It was movable in the door slightly but nothing that bothered us. If you want it more snug just cut inside the line you traced. He used a jigsaw to cut it out. It was a very quick and easy install. I love that the flap is soft flexible plastic because I read a lot of reviews on other cat doors that said it hurt their cat's tails and this one does not or could not hurt their tails. Also I have 4 Extra Large cats and they all got the hang of it within an hour. We first closed them in the closet so they could try to get out on their own and some of them we had to push through to show them how to do it but it works great. It also helps contain any smell to the closet from their litter which is what we got it for. We use pine pellets for litter which makes the pee smell go away but any time they poop we'd have to go in and scoop it right away because it would smell like they pooped right next to us. This door allows us to close the closet door and contain the smell so we only have to scoop poop once a day or twice if they went more often that day.

The item arrived 3 days late, it was not delivered to a locker as I selected. The courier continually asked me to meet him at a shopping center to collect my item and the item came with no cut template to install nor installation instructions.
