## Description

Discover Henrik Ibsen’s masterpiece, A Doll’s House, the ground-breaking play that continues to challenge societal conventions to this day. Nora Helmer’s life is picture-perfect. She keeps a spotless home, juggling the constraints of the rigid 19th-century Norwegian middle class and her husband’s expectations while raising their three children. However, behind closed doors lies a brewing storm of deceit and contempt. As a well-kept secret comes back to haunt her, Nora starts to realize her role within her house and the male-dominated society she lives in, peeling back the layers of her life to reveal the ugly truth underneath. When Nora dares to take a step towards a future where she can embrace her true self at last, her life will never be the same again. A Doll's House highlights the struggle for independence and the pursuit of freedom in a world that demands conformity and submission. In this ground-breaking play, Ibsen employs masterful detail and realism, challenging readers to experience the power of a woman's awakening—a resonating reminder that true freedom can only be achieved through the courage to challenge the status quo. Discover exclusive features in this beautiful edition: A detailed annotation, including historical context on women’s lives, roles, and rights during the 19th century. Review: A wonderful play with historical importance - It has been decades since I’ve seen a production of A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen and even longer since I’ve read the play. So when I discovered a Kindle copy, I bought it. There are plenty of memories in that script. The play’s role in advocating for women’s rights in the nineteenth century makes it an important work for anyone to see or read. This edition includes a synopsis, a discussion of the play’s historical importance, and other factors that influenced Ibsen’s writing. August Strindberg wrote the play, Miss Julie, as a response to Ibsen’s work. It came after A Doll’s House so it couldn’t have influenced Ibsen, but I wish Catherine Miles had included a discussion of the two playwrights’ different views.
Review: Timeless Drama of Self-Discovery - Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House is an enduring masterpiece that delves into the complexities of marriage, societal expectations, and the quest for individual identity. The annotated 1879 Classic Edition offers insightful commentary that enriches the reader's understanding of this groundbreaking work. The story of Nora Helmer, who courageously confronts the confines of her doll-like existence, remains profoundly relevant. The annotations provide valuable historical context, highlighting the radical nature of Ibsen's critique of gender roles during the late 19th century. This edition is a must-read for those seeking to explore the depths of Ibsen's incisive social commentary and the timeless struggle for personal freedom.

First, I read this as an ebook on my Kindle. The title indicates it is annotated but it isn't. The story itself is very easy to understand. It is very fast pasted but that is expected since it's a play. There is very little character development so the ending surprised me. Everyone should read this so they will some knowledge of the rights women didn't have. A woman couldn't get credit on her own without her husband's signature until the 70s. Women should not be dolls to be taken care of or lorded over but is full partners on a marriage.
