Frankenstein (Masterpiece Library Edition)

Quite remarkable story. It really captures your attention immediately. Hard to believe Mary Smelly is only 21 years old when she wrote Frankenstein. All the movie depictions do not give justice to this masterpiece. Again, a classic book defined as one which everyone has heard of but not read. Enjoy this gem.

This book is actually heavy to hold and a delight to look at! Haven’t read the book but just holding it in your hands is pretty magical! The gold edges make it even more enchanting! The pages are super thick and a tan color with large text and easy to read! The cover is also super thick and sturdy! Also has a book marker that is gold! Worth the money!

This was my second kindle version of Frankenstein that I purchased. I’ve never read the book, but the first one didn’t seem right. I like to read chapter summaries online after I read, just to make sure I’m getting it, and to better understand the themes, literary elements, etc. The first version was not matching the chapter reviews. There were definitely parts missing, the chapters weren’t numbered right, and even some of the story lines were different. This version, however, lined up with the reviews I was reading. Weird, because both claimed to be “the original, unabridged 1818 text,” but when I read them side by side, they clearly were not the same. My recommendation - this is the version to get. And it’s a great book! Like I said, I’ve never read it, so all I ever knew of Frankenstein came from movies, caricatures, and pop culture. Spoiler alert, the original novel is much different! (And way better, in my opinion!) It became an instant favorite of mine. It’s very easy to read, and there will come a point where you just can’t put it down. I know that’s cliche, but it’s true - I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next. Also this version has some cool illustrations.

I'm loving the book so far. My husband will have to get a second copy if he doesn't want to see my annotation notes. Lol The only thing I would suggest to The Lost Book Project Team is to reformat it to accommodate smaller hands. Instead of it being this 6x9 size make it 4x6 or 5x7 size. I'm having to curl the book to comfortably read it. See pics for example.

Eeeee I really love it!! It’s so wonderful to have a book look nice, feel nice, and not feel like I’m dirtying it by actually reading LOL? Real sturdy. The gold rimmed pages look lovely, and the feel ohhh the feel!!! Mostly for older prints, but a lot of books I’ve read have had very rough feeling pages, and my hands will fiddle with the corners and wear them out, leaving them soft and rounded and RUINED, and as someone who finds merely dog earring my novels painful. Not great. Here, however, the gold rim leaves pages firm and makes flipping to the next thoughtless (and importantly, makes my constant corner annihilation none too desirable). The paper itself is so smooth that my fingers absently rub along the flat plane of text instead, and of the few fancy books I’ve allowed myself none have offered that same stimulation. Which is baffling. This feels like that expensive printer paper you get yelled at for drawing on as a kid. Why printed books never feel like good printer paper, I will never know. The title I read after this felt like it was made of popcorn ceiling in comparison. Great for display and, in my case, absolutely perfect for reading. The spine is made of a rougher material and it’s the kind that relentlessly attracts the fur of any fluffy pets. If you leave it out you’ll want a lint roll handy lol but it’s such a non issue. This is a great book to read and love Frankenstein AND convince someone the value of a physical copy. Such a steal ❤️❤️❤️

A Must Have For All Horror Fans

Beautifully bound edition with gilt edging. Came sealed, which I was delighted about because several other special edition books I bought haven't, and some of them had damage to the binding and pages. I'll definitely be looking for more Peter Pauper Press editions of my favourite books.

Und hier habe ich ein sehr schönes Buch gefunden. Halbleinen, Goldprägung, Goldschnitt an allen drei Seiten. Das Papier erstklassige Qualität, in einer angenehmen leicht elfenbeinfarbenen Tönung, Lesebändchen. Druck etwas größer, sodaß man die Augen nicht überanstrengen muss. Das alles zu einem mehr als günstigen Preis. Ich hatte bisher nur eine Paperback Ausgabe in deutscher Übersetzung und wollte endlich lesen, was Mary Shelley wirklich geschrieben hat. Und ich wollte nicht Herman Munster auf dem Buchtitel sehen. Oder anatomische Herzen. Das Buch eignet sich sicherlich auch sehr gut als Geschenk für alle Frankenstein Fans.

Highly recommend. I really enjoyed this book so I bought it again as a gift for someone.

The book is bound beautifully with larger than expected pages. Obviously the story itself is great and it is the 1831 version. The book has been read through a couple times and no issues with the binding or pages themselves!
