It's a compelling read, combining vivid descriptions of the characters he meets on his journey, with fascinating insight into the history of the landscape, and useful tips should you ever need to persuade a mule to do something that was not its' idea in the first place. Enjoyable reading, without being 'lightweight'. He's an intelligent writer, I learn a lot from his books that I didn't realise I should know.

As with Hugh Thomson's other books (this is my fourth) I enjoyed his quirky, off-the-wall attitude.
