Just about the perfect EDC for many
Just about the perfect EDC for someone who wants the best in a practical, small light. It is a far-throwing spotlight that will also light up a room when stood on its end and pointed to the ceiling. Very well-built. This is the second MT2A Pro I have purchased. I keep mine in my Wranglers front pocket or clipped onto a hoodie. I wanted one for my wife because it fits easily in a purse. That way she will always have a flashlight nearby. I would not be comfortable giving this light to a young kid. The upper power levels are very bright. Great battery life (more than a month for me, a daily user) on the lowest output level which is all that I need most of the time.

Excellent flashlight
I have a still working Coast HP8R which I like very much. It's probably 5 years old at least and still going strong. However it's large and I have to carry it in a belt sheath, and I wanted something I could fit in a shirt pocket instead. This Nitecore flashlight is much smaller and lighter than the Coast. It fits my shirt pocket fairly well, and while there are even smaller/lighter penlights available, brightness, beam quality and run time suffer. For me the Nitecore is an acceptable compromise between light output and size/weight. YMMV. Light output of the Nitecore is similar to the Coast (both are rated 1000 lumens on high), both have three brightness levels. I assume the Coast has a longer run time because its battery is physically larger but since it's a older design I'm not even sure of that - and the Nitecore should be more than sufficient for my needs. The Nitecore does come up short in a couple of areas. One is the non focusing beam. The Coast has a gorgeous floodlight beam with no hotspot, and can be focused to a much brighter narrow beam. The Nitecore can't be focused and has a narrow very bright hot spot with much dimmer surround. Still fine for my needs but the Coast is better IMHO (the larger size does provide some benefits). Another Coast advantage is it has an external recharge port while the Nitecore does not. Not that big a deal to me, I'm not a flashlight nerd so I don't get terribly upset (like some) that you have to remove the Nitecore battery to recharge it. I'm old enough to remember when you had to open a flashlight to replace its spent carbon zinc batteries - or replace its burned out incandescent bulb, which was barely bright enough even when it worked. The new rechargeable LED flashlights are so fantastic that a minor inconvenience to recharge the battery is a nothingburger. The Nitecore beats the Coast in its brightness control. The Coast always powers on in full-brightness mode, which is usually much too bright so the powerup ritual includes immediately dimming the output. The Nitecore remembers the previous brightness setting between power cycles, which simplifies using it. Not a huge deal but appreciated. Both the Nitecore and Coast can run on alkaline batteries in a pinch, but the Coast requires a separate battery holder. It's included with the flashlight but it'll end up in a drawer and guaranteed you won't have it with you when you need it. The Nitecore beats the Coast in this area, no battery holder required, just slip in two AA's (performance is reduced on alkalines for either flashlight). So far the Nitecore has met my expectations completely. I'll update this review if anything goes wrong.

SOLID Built, moisture tight, CRAZY Bright, WILL buy again!!
In the past 4 years, I have purchased 5 NEBO 500 lumen pen lights, because it actually was 500+ lumen, however, at $35-$40 a pop, it adds up, and I frankly was tired of the short lifespan. EVERY flaw the NEBO 500+ had, has been 100% addressed with THIS AMAZING NITECORE 1000 Lumen MT2A Pro flashlight!! This MT2A’s battery lasts longer, is TWICE as bright as the NEBO, Charges TWICE as fast, and the couple of things that make this MT2A FAR better than any others I’ve used, is NITECORE Focused on Build Quality, hands down, when you’re just holding this light, it just feels like a well-engineered, well-thought through SOLID flashlight… Also, I LOVE the fact that the MT2A deliberately focused on an environmentally tight, hermetically sealed flashlight, by doing away with the so-called “ convenient charging port access” and intentionally engineered a Lithium ion battery with the charging port built into the BATTERY, and NOT the body of the flashlight! This is important for 3 reasons…. Removing the battery to charge it reassures a visual on the O-ring that seals off and protects the sensitive electronics inside, not to mention the manufacturer realizes the importance of this o-ring, has added a SPARE o-ring in the even of an accidental tear, or even from average wear from recharging!! BONUS! 2nd, removing the battery to recharge it, doesn’t leave the weight of the flashlight hanging from the tiny and fragile micro-usb port, which causes strain and unintentional wear on the micro-usb port, which in time, WILL fail due to design flaws and untested port stresses, *Speaking from experience! The 3rd and more important reasons for removing the battery to recharge it, batteries naturally get warm, and some get HOT while recharging takes place…. Overheating a battery repeatedly can strip longevity in use after a full charge, but can also rob the buyer of unintended wear to the battery diminishing battery life by not just hours, but by Months and even Years of use!! When the battery has the opportunity to shed excess heat quickly, this will help maintain optimal charging temperatures, and overall assist in extending the Life Expectancy of your battery!! I ALMOST forgot about the BEST thing about the MT2A Pro and the benefit to removing the battery to charge it, which is A. An EXTRA battery can be purchased for A minuscule $14!!! That way, you’re always getting the best use of this flashlight, BUT, if you don’t want to purchase the spare battery, NO WORRIES!! The engineers at NITECORE also designed the MT2A to ALSO work using 2 AA batteries while your Lithium ion battery is charging!! This way, you are NEVER without the use of your handy pen light! There’s NOTHING worse or more frustrating than needing a bright light quickly, when you reach down to your pocket where you ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS have your Pen Light clipped, and at the WORST time, IT’S NOT THERE?!? Because it’s STUCK near an outlet while its internal battery with “convenient charging access” is being replenished for who knows how long?! NOT WITH THE MT2A!! Being able to EASILY swap out the Lithium Ion for your previously recharged $14 SPARE battery has a full charge and ready in wait, OR, the 2 random AA’s laying around can be thrown inside the MT2A, so you can keep right on going with whatever you’re in the middle of!! No, I wasn’t asked to write any review, I wasn’t paid to boast about this flashlight, in fact, I RARELY leave reviews at all, UNLESS the product I purchased actually AMAZES me, or is SO much better and well-built than any other item out there that I’ve experienced, I just figure it’s the LEAST I can do is show the Engineers some Props for a DESIGN WELL-DONE, EXCEEDING ANY other top name brand light on the market!!! As long as this pen light and its robust design and build remains available for sale, I will NOT be without a NITECORE MT2A Pro AGAIN!!

A NICE AA CAPABLE LIGHT
Let's get this out of the way first......My name is Alan and I am a flashaholic. OK.....The product arrived on time and well packaged. For the record, I have lights that encompass everything from budget lights to high end lights like those made by SureFire. I have a number of other Nitecore products as well. So why add another one? Up to 1,000 lumens in a pen light was irresistible. I always carry at least two lights, one being a keychain light and the other is normally worn in a belt holster. There are times however, when a more discreet carry is called for. That may be a penlight. Now to be fair, this is on the larger wide for a penlight. Compared to a Streamlight Sylus...To accommodate the larger lithium battery pack and the AA batteries...It is probably about 40% wider than the Stylus. It is also slightly longer. Be sure top read the specifications so that you know what you are buying. A Stylus you can easily hide in a suit coat. This light.....Not quite as easy to conceal. But what you trade off in size you gain in brightness. The light is solidly built in typical Nitecore tradition. The body has a unique knurling that works well for me. Be sure to look at the product images so you know what you are buying. I seem to recall a few people saying that they felt the knurling was too aggressive. I do not find that to be the case. The tail cap mounted switch works well with a firm feel and good feedback, but it is a reverse clicky with no monetary function. While I prefer a forward clicky....This was a trade of I was willing to accept. For that reason I did not deduct any stars. If this is a deal breaker for you then do not order this light. Perhaps they will offer something different in the future. The tail cap is also design for free standing an for a lanyard. That means that the switch is partially covered / two sides are covered by the tail standing metal. This is another feature that I do not like, but I purchased the light knowing this so no stars deducted. Access to the switch itself is still good but...It may be more difficult if you are wearing winter gloves. The beam profile is one with a distinct and moderate sized hot spot with generous side spill. There is a ring or two that will not affect normal use, but if you are a white wall hunter you will most likely not be pleased. The tint is on the cool side of neutral but not horribly so. The belt clip is bi directional and removable. It is in the box and not installed at delivery. The battery is accessible by removing the tail cap. The threads are cleanly cut and lubricated. The O ring was also lubricated at assembly. Overall...,I am very pleased with the light. While there are some negative aspects, the availability of 1,000 lumens (500 when AA powered) is hard to resist, especially at the stated run times. On the run times...Keep in mind that thermal management is in play, so how long the light will produce those high end lumens will depend on the conditions at the time of use as the light will reduce its output as its temperature climbs to protect itself. I have already used this light verifying that there were no skunks living under our deck. Its small formfactor (For a light capable of this output) made it much easier to get under there. I love having this much power in a form factor that is MUCH smaller than most typical 1,000 lumen lights.

Not the light I was going for but I like it
I bought this looking for a high powered pen light. Its a little thicker then I wanted for a pen light but the light is still really nice. My biggest complaint is that the lowest setting isn't as low as I was hoping for. If there was a 5-10 lumen moon beam setting I would give it 5 stars. That being said, the throw is very good for the size light and there is a fairly large but defined hotspot. There is decent spill but it still feels like you can still focus in on something out in the yard. The flashlight itself feels like a quality built item. I accidentally dropped it over the railing and down 9-10 feet on concrete at the bottom of my basement entrance and it still looks and functions perfect. Tail switch has a nice clicky feel. The battery so far has been good but my flashlights, although used frequently, aren't used for extended period's of time. I definitely recommend this flashlight if a low setting of 50 lumens is ok for you.

You won’t find better for the money.
Ok. I admit it. I’m kind of a flashlight snob. I have a lot. I shouldn’t, but I work a lot at night and I am always trying new flash lights to see which one is better. I can honestly say for the money, this flashlight beats the socks off of any “Amazon special” tactical light. This is a real, name brand light, with real, name brand quality. Tired of going through cheap flashlights? Yah I get it. Stop doing that. Get this one. It has lasted a LONG time for me and is so bright. I attach mine to my hat so I can use my hands. I like that I can charge this battery or swap it for AA batteries. I’ve had to do that several times when I’ve used the whole battery up and didn’t have time to charge it back up. Honestly, It would be more convenient if I could plug the charger directly into the flash light and not have to remove the battery first, BUT then you wouldn’t be able to swap for the AAs. This is an acceptable trade off. The light quality, the actual “color” of this light is also hands down. It doesn’t strain your eyes like some of the overly white flashlights you can get on Amazon. I have several other Nitecores and they are all great at this. The only flashlights Ive used that’s as good at color as this one, are the milwaukees, but they are missing in many other areas. For the price, you can’t beat it. Perfect small size and high brightness, versatile light for your EDC.

New EDC Light
This is a great little light. I was carrying a Streamlight Polytac X, but wanted something smaller that was just as bright. Read some reviews online & decided $44 was worth a gamble. That was a great decision on my part!! Not only is it smaller, but it is also brighter. You dont even notice it clipped to your pocket. I charged the battery up when it arrived & actually got to use it at work today. Battery life is excellent & the pattern of the beam couldn't be better. It shines very bright up close & illuminates objects further away just as well. Feels like a quality constructed product as well, but it is very light. The ability to use 2 AA batteries was a huge plus as well. I highly doubt the battery will ever go dead quick enough to need spares, but its nice knowing i can use AA's if i need to. All around highly satisfied with this purchase!! Edit to my review.... Been carrying this for over a year now & love this little powerhouse. Couldn't be happier. Works flawlessly & still holding a great charge

Great EDC Flashlight
The Nitecore MT2A Pro is an excellent option for an EDC flashlight in the 2x AA form factor category. The included rechargeable NL1416R battery lasts a very long time on the medium setting. I only have to charge the battery every couple of weeks with what I would consider to be "regular" daily use for an EDC flashlight (a minute or two here, a minute or two there, each day on average). The single guarded tail switch is easy to manipulate and has a very satisfying tactile feel and audible click. Changing brightness is as simple as a momentary half press of the tail switch, while the light is on, to step through the three brightness levels; the last used brightness level is stored so you don't have to step through brightness levels each time you turn the flashlight on. The pocket clip is sturdy and while I wouldn't consider it a "deep carry" pocket clip, it still allows the light to sit sufficiently low in your pocket; if it sat any deeper, it would probably bottom out in most pockets, since it is a 2x AA from factor light. The pocket clip also incorporates a secondary clip for mounting the flashlight to the brim of a hat for handsfree use. The rechargeable battery can be swapped for two AA size batteries, which is convenient in the event your NL1416R dies unexpectedly, since it takes about four hours to charge. Personally, I recommending picking up a spare NL1416R to swap with when the one in use runs low, but the ability to use non-rechargeable AA alkaline batteries instead is a welcomed feature (it's worth noting, however, that you do not get the maximum brightness from the MT2A Pro when using non-rechargeable alkaline batteries). The light does get quite warm after just a couple minutes of use on the medium and high settings, but I would consider this normal. Overall, I think the Nitecore MT2A Pro is a fantastic 2x AA sized EDC flashlight and I highly recommend it if you're in the market for an EDC light of this size.
