Hayward SX244DA Lateral Assembly with Center Pipe Replacement for Select Hayward Automatic Skimmers and Sand Filter

We bought a house with a pool last year. This spring, we decided to change the sand in the filter. Well, the old sand turned out to be fine but some of the laterals were crushed and the center pipe was cracked. With Amazon Prime, this assembly arrived in two days, slipped perfectly into place and then we added the new sand. No problems encountered. In general, we're impressed by the availability of Hayward replacement parts and by their reasonable price. This octopus contraption is no exception. Well done, Hayward & Amazon!

Improved my filter performance

I replaced the sand in my filter this year. Before I did, I order this because I knew I had at least one broke lateral (sand in the pool). I didn't know how extensive the damage was and a whole new assembly is relatively cheap. Plus, unlike my existing laterals, these fold up like an umbrella, making it easy to get in and out of the filter. It fit perfectly in my S220T Hayward and is of very good quality. The replacement went without a hitch.

Just installed. Identical to the original, but the center pipe seems more robust. Did not come with the cardboard centering jig. I had to make my own. That takes a star away. Basically, I took a slightly smaller tube, wrapped it with masking tape at a couple of points, slid it into the center pipe, and left about 6 inches of the tube I inserted above the rim of the filter. Then I centered it with a tape measure and secured it with a notched out piece of cardboard and some duct tape. It worked well. ALSO, fill the filter half way with water (as others have said) before dumping the sand in, and check the centering. The worst thing you can do is stress that center pipe too much. My old one snapped right off, so careful with your new one. Here's hoping for no more sand in the pool.

Follow directions, do not let sand get into the tube..

I usually replace the lateral assembly when I replace the sand in my pool filter. The first time I replaced the sand, the lateral assembly was broken, so I replace it just to be safe. I don't want a failure to occur after I replace the sand. This assembly is identical to the original and fits just fine.

Fit well. Seems to be doing its job.

The pool store wanted to push a filter since it would cost as much but here it is, very reasonably priced and solved the sand in pool issue. Be ready to scoop out the sand in your filter to replace this item and have up to 300 pounds of new filter sand to finish the job. Works like new now after about hour to do the job.

Little long ,I had to cut a couple inches off the stand pipe. Worked as it should. Pool is super clean

It was easy to install (after watching a tutorial) and works as new. The old one lasted 20 years, so hopefully this one will too. Hayward is a good brand.

It fit into my filter perfectly and has been working well in my filter. It was a good replacement fit.

Product is exactly what I needed and couldn’t find it locally, price was great. Product is a 100% Hayward OEM product unlike a lot of other seemingly “Hayward” OEM products, beware. Really wish Amazon would do more to weed out fake products.
