Lemmon is a career-climbing executive who offers his boss the use of his apartment for an extra-marital fling and soon gets tangled up with the boss' flighty and fragile girlfriend, played by MacLaine. Review: It starts slow but just wait - Being old I'm used to how movies used to be and since we didn't have many choices on what to watch we tended to give a movie time to develop. Times have changed but if you think about watching this, it's a classic. Best picture of 1961 and while it's a comedy the truth is it's more drama than that mixed with romance, heartache and a real slice of life from the 60's. A man loans out his apartment in New York to 4 fellow workers who promise he will get a promotion if they can use his apartment for romantic interludes away from their wives. Jack Lemmon and Shirley McClain are amazing in this very grownup and authentic movie. While it's a real drama there is enough light hearted things to get it called a comedy and it's full of things you don't see anymore (imagine a doctor for your neighbor in a cheap apartment building who lives next door, elevator operators in a high rise office building housing one insurance company with thousands using adding machines with all the executives being men only, in a time that was all about men and the women they romanced. One of Billy Wilder's best and one he won best director for. Memories of this time are fading fast so enjoy it while it lasts. Review: Amazing movie. - THIS MOVIE IS SO GOOD. DONT MAKE IT LIKE THEY USE TOO. RENT IT. TOTALLY WORTH IT.

Did Billy Wilder Ever Do a Bad Job?
Billy Wilder, a great cast and a compelling story. I put this up there with Sunset Boulevard (and above Some Like it Hot).

I returned this because it would not play. I wrote a negative review. Turns out I was in the wrong my DVD player needed a reboot. Apologize

Smart Comedy
This is a sophisticated, clever movie written and directed by the legendary Billy Wilder. Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine are well cast as is Ray Walston. Edie Adams has a cameo role. Fred MacMurray was not first choice for the adulterous Executive of a large New York Insurance Company. Paul Douglas was signed for the role but died before shooting began. Fred is a bit out place for the role (by then he was the dad in "My Three Sons") but is not a failure in the part. A fun movie that won Best Picture of 1960--the last time a B & W film won until 1993 with Schindler's List--so shot for effect. The Apartment is well worth watching. One can tell from this movie that we were moving away from the 1950's mores--which has not been all good. JLP

Lemmon and MacMurray deliver great performances.
A great comedy. Jack Lemmon and Fred MacMurray both deliver great performances. Lemmon entangled in his work superiors and boss's needing to use his apartment for getting some on the side. MacMurray as Lemmon's superior at work and then with his help his boss, the cold hearted cheater who for example gives money as a birthday gift.

Exactly What It Says It Is
This is a great purchase of my favorite movie! The blue ray is great quality in picture and in sound. There's literally nothing wrong with it. Everything you expect it to have, it does.

Have always loved this movie and could watch it again and again. Must admit that when I received the DVD in a coloured cover, I thought the movie may have been the same, but not disappointed. Love the black and white.

(Blu-Ray) Magnifique transfert d'un grand classique! Le grain est là, le piqué aussi, les niveaux sont sublimes, que du plaisir. On a redécouvert ce film qu'on avait pourtant déjà vu une demi-douzaine de fois.

Great story, great acting, lots of heart. But this isn't news is it? The darned thing won five Oscars and a lengthy range of other honors so there is no need for me to add to that, other than to say it is one of my top ten favorite films of all time. This is a very good quality copy that displays better than our old non-HD one. I'm very happy with it, value-wise.

- Inside the Apartment (30 min). Shirley McLaine, el hijo de Jack Lemmon y varios críticos de Hollywood analizan el origen, el casting y la producción de la película. - Magic Time: The Art of Jack Lemmon (13 min).

Indulge in a cinematic masterpiece with this timeless classic that combines romance, comedy, and drama in a captivating tale of love and ambition set in the bustling world of 1960s Manhattan. Directed by the legendary Billy Wilder and starring Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine in unforgettable roles, "The Apartment" is a cinematic gem that has stood the test of time. Lemmon's portrayal of the lovable yet conflicted C.C. Baxter is both endearing and relatable, while MacLaine's portrayal of the charming and enigmatic Fran Kubelik adds depth and nuance to the film's narrative. One of the highlights of this DVD is its stunning picture quality and immersive sound, allowing viewers to fully appreciate the beauty and detail of Wilder's vision. From the bustling streets of New York City to the intimate interiors of Baxter's apartment, every scene is brought to life with clarity and precision. The packaging of the DVD is elegant and tasteful, featuring artwork that captures the essence of the film's romantic charm. It arrived securely packaged, ensuring that the disc remained in perfect condition upon arrival. Furthermore, I was impressed by the fast delivery time. The DVD arrived promptly, allowing me to experience the magic of "The Apartment" without delay. In conclusion, The Apartment is a must-have for any fan of classic cinema. With its timeless romance, witty charm, and unforgettable performances, it's a film that will capture your heart and leave you longing for more with each viewing.
