Easy install, fit like factory, works like a charm. Just reset your ECU-B fuse when done. When I was all done, the switch would not open the tailgate although I could hear the motor. If you open the fuses next to the battery and pull out ECU-B for 15 seconds, it will reset the electronics in the back. After that hit the lock on your remote, unlock twice and the rear switch works again.

I bought this for my 2008 4Runner after the original hatch closer on the vehicle broke after 15 years and over 200k miles. I didn't want to pay what Toyota was charging for one of these, so I bought this one as a cheaper alternative. But as the saying goes, penny wise, pound foolish - the first one that I put on broke within a few months. The motor will still run, but the mechanism won't pull the hatch shut. To the seller's credit, they sent me a free replacement, and this second one also suffered the same failure in about a year. At least this assembly isn't very hard to replace, and I do subject my 4Runner to lots of dusty offroad driving, but that's what I bought it for. Unfortunately, this part is not a suitable OEM-quality replacement. I'm going to pay up for the OEM replacement, because I'm tired to replacing this over and over. At least the OEM unit was good for 15 years.

No instruction, but the tube will guide you. Pretty plug and play except! You must know the secret chant to get your car to wed its new bit. After install you have to disconnect the battery for a good 30s, re connect and cycle the door locks 3 times to recant the enchantment of the master dungeon key. So that your car will communicate with her new hatch parts. (No really it’s a thing)

This unit looks like it's very good quality (as nice, if not nicer than the original OEM part we replaced). It also has a cover on it to keep moisture out, which the original one did not have. The installation wasn't too difficult, but it does take time to replace one of these because of the panels you have to remove. The fit was perfect, and the wiring harness had the correct plug to go right into the original one.

My 2004 4 runner stopped latching one day and we bought this replacement part. It held up great for about a year and then again had trouble latching. A few times when it wasn’t fully latched and I didn’t realize it actually failed as I was driving and opened fully. Luckily I didn’t have my dogs or any objects in my trunk at the time. Just something to think about! It worked great until it didn’t.
