Over time I have found it best to use a filter membrane in the lower section of the tube to keep out particles that may pass the basket and get to the pump. I set the skimmer close to the edge of the pond so I can easily reach the basket and empty when needed. This is a replacement. I had the original one for many years, over 7 at least, but over time the top section would not slide as easy to keep with the water level. I think the material breaks down some between some algae growth and the sun. As shown in videos it will skim the surface clean. Love it. Glad someone would ship this size from the UK to the USA.
