How is the optical drive powered? as obviously an internal drive has sata socket and flat sata power socket. thanks

It has an external power supply, which supplies power to the drive through a standard SATA 1/11 connection, via the box itself. So, you connect the external supply to the box and the box contains a lead to connect the drive.

Internad drive comnections

It takes standard SATA connector. So if you have IDE, this is not the product for you. Any drive with SATA will work with this.

Burning m-disc. can this enclosure support burning m-discs, bdr discs, bluray discs, various sizes: 25-100gb? or has only reading capabilities?

I think you've misunderstood what the product is. It is simply an enclosure in which to put a DVD Drive. I used mine to house a DVD Drive from my previous PC because my new laptop came without a DVD drive in it. The old drive sits in the caddy and connects to my laptop via a USB cable. Provided your drive is the correct measurments it will just slide inside.

Will this accept an ide drive
