Review: Great travel guide - This edition was published in 2013, which is the year I had a 3-week vacation to Russia. Even though I was on a guided tour group, this book was invaluable. It ave insight on things that even our escort was unaware of. I was on a 13 day river book trip on the Volga River, but had man stops & also booked extra days by myself & a firend in Moscow & St. Petersburg & it was so helpful wien we were on our own--also great tips on the culture & how to behave/interact with People in Russia. Well worth it! Review: Informative! Valuable Guide! Highly recommend! - The way the world is right now, I probably won't ever be able to visit Russia, but that doesn't mean I can't read about it! Always know thine enemy, they say. lots of information and color photos. A bit dated from 2016 but worthwhile anyway. Highly recommend it!

Good quality travel book about Russia
New interest in Russia because of world events and historical dramas and documentaries on TV have encouraged people to gain a deeper knowledge of the country. While Russia is not the stereotypical tourist destination it has a culture that has both European and Asian features, cities of global importance (Moscow, Leningrad, Murmansk, Volgograd, and Vladivostok), and a mix of both authoritarian and free elements in its cultural life. Highlights of this book include the Winter Palace, the Kremlin, St. Basil's Cathedral, and Northern Russia. This book has the usual DK Travel format -- detailed summaries about cities and regions (Northern Russia, Central and Southern Russia, The Caucasus, Siberia and the Far East, and Kaliningrad), excellent color photos, brief overviews of the numerous small cities, followed by reference information about hotels, shopping, and general travel matters. DK guides are ideal for actual travel but are also good with travel and history videos, like "Globe Trekker - Russia" (2002) with Ian Wright, as well as more recent online videos.

It feels salesy and the photos are too small to discern anything
I bought this because honestly I don’t know anything about Russia and I wanted to learn more. The photos were quite small and honestly the book feels like one really big ad. It’s really just a pictorial address book of tourist traps.
