Review: Great little household helper! - I should start this review by stating, very clearly, that I am not a domestic goddess. My natural inclination to slovenliness is exacerbated by the other inhabitant of the house, a grumpy cocker spaniel who does not pull his weight with the household chores and traipses all sorts of mud, dust, food and hair everywhere. A colleague had let slip in a meeting that they had a robot vacuum and I had laughed at the thought - "don't they just scare pets and get lost/stuck in inconvenient places?", I asked. Then, several weeks ago the state of the house was really starting to get me down and I bit the bullet and started researching. A top of the range model looked appealing, but as I was still not really convinced it was a good idea, I wasn't prepared to spend £400-£500 on one. Then I found this Eufy G30 model - not quite the latest technology, but tried, tested and - with a helpful special offer - considerably cheaper. It arrived quickly - thank you desertcart Prime! - and once unpacked the first challenge was to find a suitable "Home" location for the base. This was more challenging than I expected as it should be positioned at least a metre away from any obstacles, but close to a plug socket. As I have a small-ish house all my sockets tend to be in the corners of rooms - the most convenient spot was in the corner of the living room, tucked behind the sofa. It isn't ideal, and occasionally it will get lost on the way back home, but 90% of the time it is fine. After charging up the unit and forcing myself to do the basic "pick everything up off the floor" style tidy, it was time to unleash the beast. It's fair to say that the first couple of cleans were entertaining to watch, but a bit underwhelming. The spinning brush went missing on the first clean (sabotage from the canine housemate, I later found it in his bed!) and the unit got stuck between a dining chair and table on the second. However, once we sorted out the first few snags I was seriously impressed at how much dirt and dust it can collect. I tried the automatic mode, but this wasn't working for the amount of dirt in my house, so I keep it on Max power - as a serious point, the dog is terrified of my big vacuum cleaner and whilst he looks at the Eufy very suspiciously and stays out if its way, he is much less bothered by it, so I'm justifying it with reduced canine stress levels as well. We now have a routine, the dog and I leave the house for our morning walk and set the Eufy off to clean downstairs. By the time we get back my lounge, kitchen and dining room floors are dust, hair and food free - it genuinely makes so much difference to how I feel. Once a week I set it up to clean upstairs. The first time I did this I realised that I had definitely made the right choice. The newer units are taller to accommodate more brushes and mop features, but this little champ can actually squeeze under my divan base. It's amazing! I empty it about once or twice per week, which is very easy but I do tend to spill dust as I'm doing it and the filter cartridge gets clogged up quite easily. I hope that spares are readily available as I suspect I'll need a few. It can't pick up big pieces of debris (e.g. dog kibble), but handles most other things well. The spot cleaning function is OK, but I generally just set it off to clean everywhere. I tried the remote control function from the app and found it a bit pointless, I just pick the unit up and put it where I want it instead. All in all, I'm really happy with this purchase. It seems sturdy and I hope it lasts a couple of years - I just need them to invent a version that can climb stairs and dust higher up places as well :)
Review: Very impressive robotic hoover - the Eufy 15C - I purchased this hoover owing to my always never having enough time to get the hoovering done around my Autistic son. I had been watching it for a while on desertcart and then a daily deal came up for this model so I purchased it. Mine is the Eufy 15C. My wife was very dubious about it when I brought it home and it scoffed it as another one of my ‘man gadgets’ but as hoovering is one of my many self-committed routine tasks it was willing to give it a go. My wife has since retracted her statement and tells everyone about our new member of the family lol. I have been using a cyclonic hoover for a while but as with most hoovers, they can be quite noisy, which unfortunately doesn't sit well with my son’s disability so we could only really hoover when he was at school etc and as we both work full time so this was always a bit of an issue. I decided on the robotic vacuum as I could set it going while no-one is at home which would be ideal. Well I must say I am actually very impressed with this item. It is actually very quiet, in fact so quiet that you could effectively have it running at night to a degree. It sounds nothing like a normal hoover, you just here the sound of gentle ‘whoosh’ as it soldiers on sucking up the dirt. I generally have to set it to run twice (owing to point 1 below) but it does a very good job of picking up dust and keeping the house tidy, I have it running 3 times a week now on the schedule built into the Android app and I am very happy as a result. The suction is pretty good for the size of the unit, its beyond me how it manages to pick up so much as the dust collector always seems to be pretty full after every run, the dust collector is nice and easy to empty too. We have a mixture of carpet, rugs, wooden and tiled floors and works well on all, it has therefore taken up the job of a hoover and a floor brush. Unfortunately there are some minor issues and these are the ones I have encountered so far: 1) Unfortunately it goes around the house aimlessly hoovering as it does, this has sometimes resulted in the vacuum covering the same rooms multiple times, whilst its great that those rooms are then incredibly clean it runs out of charge so it can’t complete the job in one go (although I have quite a large bungalow). 2) It doesn’t detect black or reflective items very well, whilst this isn’t really a problem you will no when it has detected a black object as you will hear a bang as it bumps into it. The hoover does have a reactive front bumper though which suppresses the knocks so it shouldn’t damage anything. Anything else, including clothes left on the floor, it seems to detect it quite well and keeps away from the object by a couple of inches, turns and then heads on its merry way. 3) Some thin carpets cause an issue. One of my children has one of those playmat rugs/carpets, the type that is made up of roads and a town/farm that sort of thing. It is quite a large one though so I leave it down otherwise I would just lift it out of the way. The hoover can sometimes get caught on the edge as it goes over the top of it and it has climbed so high that it almost flips over as a result. This has happened on many occasions but not always, it really depends on what angle the hoover approaches the rug at. 4) The Hoover can climb! I have found it mating with the shoes on our shoe rack on the first rung on a couple of occasions. Don’t ask me how it’s made it up there but it has, I just lift it off and away it goes again. A word of warning; make sure you move any cables, bits of string etc out of the path of the hoover, I would also recommend tidying up any frayed carpet or move any mats that have frayed edges on them (even by design) off the floor. Basically, the hover can’t detect them and will happily gobble them up stopping the hoover in its tracks! The hoover will stop at that point and send an alert to the app advising what the problem is which is a very good feature, you can then use the ‘locate’ option to locate the hoover, address the issue, and then get it going again, this will teach you what to look out for the next time! I had a situation where the hoover managed to slip under a set of drawers in a bedroom and gobble up the lamp cable which was up against the wall at the back of the drawers which sent the lamp crashing to the ground. I didn’t actually think the hoover would make it under there but it did, I now just block the opening with a couple of thin boxes and the hoover detects them and then backs away. These are all things you learn and you will get a fair idea of what you need to tidy away or up before you set the hoover going. I would recommend keeping an eye on it for the first couple of runs just so you can get an idea of the issues it may face and address them, if any. To be honest I have no doubt you will follow it around at first anyway just out of sheer curiosity, unless this isn’t your first robotic vacuum. I like the way it can be controlled from anywhere and the fact you can set schedules. The other thing I like is the fact you can set it to do spot cleaning and edge cleaning etc, these are very handy as you can just pick the hoover up, place it over the spot and set the specific task running. The hoover also has its own controller if you don’t have and Android or Apple iPhone but I haven’t actually used it. All in all, I am really attached to our little ‘road sweeper - Mr Hoover’ (named by our children) it does a great job and deals with a tedious task very well. As I have it running multiple times a week the floors are now a lot cleaner. I would envisage still having to take the full on hoover once in a while, although there hasn’t been a need yet, and it may be purely as a curiosity exercise to see how much is left behind by the Eufy. Would I recommend it, yes, is it worth the money, yes, has it made my Autistic son happy that he doesn’t need ear defenders any more when the hoover is running, a huge yes! If you have the money go buy it!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does X8 Pro's roller brush prevent hair tangles?**
A: Yes, X8 Pro's roller brush comes with a built-in comb for automatic roller brush detangling. For pet owners, please increase the self-empty frequency to every 20 minutes and set the suction power to Turbo or Max.

**Q: What should I do if my X8 Pro SES does not start dust collection automatically?**
A: It may be due to clogged pet hair or first-time use (there may be excessive debris under furniture). Clear the robot's dust bin and station's air ducts manually. Consistent use should lead to fewer blockages as your home gets cleaner.

**Q: How does the mopping function work?**
A: The X8 Pro includes a mop pad for light cleaning on hard floors, not for heavy scrubbing or tough stains. For carpets, set a no-mop zone in the app or remove the mop pad holder, as the robot can't sense carpets.

**Q: What should I do if my X8 Pro/X8 Pro SES fails to return to its Charging Base/Self-Empty Station?**
A: Make sure to install the Charging Base/Self-Empty Station against a wall and at a location that is easily accessible. Remove obstacles within 3 ft (91 cm) of the left and right sides, and 6 ft (1.82 m) from the front of it.

**Q: How do I determine if I need to upgrade to a Self-Empty Station?**
A: X8 Pro dustbin has a capacity of 335ml and if you're regularly emptying it, you may consider upgrading to a self-emptying station to fully free up your hands with a dust bag lasting 30~60 days.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Pretty good at cleaning but Dynamic Navigation is not as it seems
*by J***B on 15 July 2020*

I replaced a cheap robot vacuum cleaner with this one specifically for the power of the vacuum and for the Dynamic Navigation. I’m not disappointed with the cleaning, it cleans up really well, however the Dynamic Navigation is nowhere good enough at the moment. It’s mapping is sketchy and if it get stuck in areas, rather than marking them with a red mark in the map and avoiding them, it will try to clean them again and get stuck. It will only go half way around a circular table one day and then go back, the next day it will navigate around it successfully, the day after it won’t even go to that area so I have no idea where it will clean. The bump technology to detect walls and edges starts fine; finds a wall, but halfway along decides not to map part of the wall as solid so there are big gaps in the outlines of the rooms which probably doesn’t help the mapping. It’s really disappointing as I read that it was meant to use Dynamic Navigation to improve its mapping every time it cleaned, but it really doesn’t seem to be the case, with rooms often part cleaned. In fact, I’d say it does exactly the same thing as my 5 year old robot vacuum that had no mapping ability at all. It deals with wooden floors really well, medium loose pile rugs pretty well but gets stuck every so often however will alert you with its voice function and phone notification, but this could be improved by the vacuum remembering problem places and marking them with a red dot/marker so they could be avoided while cleaning. Battery life is excellent, getting 124 minutes on one clean, and the ability to have 4 different type of suction, with BoostIQ dynamically changing the suction required for different floor types it encounters. There was a Firmware update recently, one of the fixes was to stop it from getting stuck which helped a little more, but it still got stuck in roughly the same areas (on the rugs) and still didn’t mark the map areas where it did get stuck so it will blindly continue to try to clean problem areas. Autohome charging is a little clumsy too, it just bumbles around bumping into furniture and walls until it manages to find its way home. It seems to not use the map because if it would follow the map it had created it would be back at the charger in seconds rather than minutes. I am in contact with Eufy support about the what the Dynamic Mapping is mean to do over and above their earlier models and so far, from their responses, it seems almost nothing, it’s a gimmick rather than a navigation tool for the vacuum, the ability to see a map in the application. There’s plenty to like about this vacuum, small, decent size dirt storage container, really quiet, great battery life, good app with the ability to spot clean and change the suction type, ability to look at the map, good power for the vacuum, and see where the device is, but don’t believe the Dynamic mapping makes it very smart, in fact I’d go so far as to say it’s almost useless. Smart mapping was a big reason for my purchase hence only a 3 star review. Update: the firmware update seems to have made the device much worse. It now won’t travel in a straight line, it goes across the room at a slight angle and maps room edges in the map incorrectly as a result. It now also always get stuck in the black sections of the multicoloured rugs we have, seemingly like the sensors don’t know where it is, and gives a device error 6, device is trapped or stuck message. Again I have reported this to Eufy support who have forwarded this information to their product people. Subsequently, I have amended my rating to two star because now I cannot rely on it not to get stuck when using a cleaning schedule, which is particularly frustrating when it gets stuck over and over again in the same place it got stuck in before. Update 2: 5/08/20 This is the second attempt at an update as the first seemed to disappear. I’ve been in constant discussion with Eufy, who have been absolutely first class support wise. They’ve worked with me to try to get an acceptable resolution and I can say they’ve gone absolve and beyond what I expected. The crux of the problem for me is the navigation and the issue of stopping on small, dark sections of a multicoloured rug. The mapping, I don’t think there is anything Eufy can do with this model. The L70 has a far more comprehensive mapping capability, but is more expensive. However the cleaning on the G70 is just as good as the L70 on that front, and cleaning is excellent on both models. In summary, if your expecting an intelligent, customisable mapping experience from this model, then you’ll be disappointed, and maybe the L70 should be looked at. The black section issue Eufy have given me a workaround to, if not perfect. By covering the sensors on the front and side of the device it will happily clean these rugs (picture shown of rug pattern) without issue. It no longer thinks it’s stuck and does a great job. However, this is only good if the device can be used in an environment where a drop is not possible. It would be great if Eufy could enable this ability in software and firmware rather than me covering the sensors in tape, and if it realised that if it got into that area it could retrace it’s steps to get back to a previously safe area. Eufy have taken all my suggestions on board and are going to put them forward to the product teams, but I can’t reiterate enough how fantastic their support have been. Reminds me of how Amazon used to be a few years ago. I am amending my review again, however I am going to clarify it by saying it gets an extra star just for the amazing support Eufy have given which should be taken into consideration when purchasing a product. 3 stars for the Product and the extra star for the support, whom I would give 5 stars alone if I could.
