This year, an overhaul of the traditional tests to elicit new understanding and skill from the mid-level piano student that are demanding but fair. For many years the oral parts of music examinations have traditionally been left by teachers until the last few lessons before the examination is due to take place. The Board has at last responded by setting tests that really need to be prepared during the whole of the course of lessons leading to each graded examination. It is worth getting a cop of teachers' notes explaining exactly how the marks are awarded today - over the years it has become quite unlike the way my teacher told me; most of all it demands demonstration skills by the teacher, ensuring that he or she is a fully rounded musician with the cdapability to understand music and to assess and to perform examples at a professional level.

I use this book to teach and help my students with their sight reading skills. It has a great range of appropriate pieces for them to choose from and is good training, as you expect from an ABRSM publication.
