PS3 Neglected
This game holds so much potential yet was very disappointing in terms of gameplay due to the neglect it gave to previous generation consoles. Whilst the story is convincing, is appropriate to Middle Earth lore, the gameplay itself was ruined by long load times, poor graphics and bad animation on some cutscenes. Albeit that maybe my console is too old and the hard drive or graphics card is failing however if not so then it seems the Monolith/Warner Brothers have totally neglected the old generation of consoles which is frustrating to those who cannot afford the next big thing write away but want to enjoy the game. Overall a game with great potential but very disappointing in the general play.

Would definitely recommend
Other than a criticism of loading times, this game is flawless. Adopting the best elements of Rockstar's Batman series, Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed and Bethseda's Skyrim, Shadow of Mordor has an engaging story with the right amount of repetitive gameplay in order to perfect and master movements, but not enough to become boring. Would definitely reccomend

Shadow of More Wasted Money
I bought "Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor" shortly before switching to the PS4 console. It is the worst PS3 game that I have ever played. This was made around the time that many developers were focusing their efforts towards making the jump over to the PS4 and in this title it shows. You play as Talion (voiced by "The Last of Us" voice actor Troy Baker), a man who loses everything before being killed and possessed by another soul. How did you come to be brought back to life, who is inhabiting you and what is your purpose. All of these are explored. The game is incredibly sluggish, bug-filled and just plain terrible. It is a complete and utter waste of money. Having said that (and having played the PS4 version), the story does not take that long to play. The game is dynamic in that each Orc has a boss higher than them. Each captain or underling has different fears and immunities which present a challenge to kill or exploit those fears. Of course, the easy way around is to possess all the underlings, thereby avoiding killing them in order to get to the boss. There are only 2/3 different areas and the game will load between them, rather than passing seamlessly to another area. The main bosses are simply a button-mashing exercise and the final boss is no exception, making an easy end to a somewhat difficult game. This seems to be another game, like the newer Tomb Raider titles that simply require the pressing of a button in a cutscene to end the game, rather than a difficult boss battle. Additionally, if you are hoping to see Lord of the Rings characters, you will be sorely disappointed as the only one to make an appearance is Gollum for a few of the missions. If you are thinking of getting this game, I would advise that you buy the PS4 version. It far exceeds the PS3 version. The best option is to not buy it at all and get a better game or a better console.

Great Game!!!!
Great game! I'm a huge fan of Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit etc so I really wanted this game. I was hesitant in buying it initially as other reviews had said that if you want this game, get it on PS4 or Xbox One as the graphics etc are nowhere near as good (I've only got a PS3). Yes, the graphics aren't as good but they aren't worse than the Batman Arkham or Assassins Creed franchises. The load times are rather long, but they are bearable. There are a few glitches here and there, but not a reason to not buy the game. Don't know if anyone else experienced this, but during the last couple of campaign missions, where there are quite a lot of enemies to deal with, it did start to lag quite badly, which when you need to counter attack is really annoying. But overall, a thoroughly enjoyable game. I'd recommend getting it regardless of any criticisms. I hope they make another in the future.

Ps3 version 3/5, ps4 version 5/5.
The game itself is a wonderful experience, with the nemesis mechanic that lets you build your own army, and Talion/Celebrimbor are really interesting characters, but honestly the ps3 porting doesn’t make any sense, performance wise is kind of terrible experience, graphically mediocre on ps3, on ps4 is a completely different experience.

Too many faults spoil the game.
This is an awful port. Nothing can escape that. I could talk about how the combat is fluid (if lacking in any sort of impact), about how the world is reasonably well-designed or about how the dialogue between the characters occasionally sparkles when they aren't batting cliched lines back and forth, or about how despite my misgivings I found myself quite absorbed in the alternate continuity the developers have built, which nicely retains visual elements of the The Lord of the Rings films while infusing it with a neat dark flavour, but it all falls aside because the game is drastically badly made. A brief list of what you might/will encounter: - Choppy framerates. This occurs when running in the world map, when deciding to sneak, when in combat; basically, at any point the framerate is liable to tank. While it's never been horrendous for me, it's still very noticeable and off-putting. - Unreasonably long loadtimes. You want to go to the map? Be prepared for up to 10 seconds of loading. You want to exit the map? Another up to 10 seconds. How about go to the pause menu? Another loading screen. Starting a mission? Finishing one? Flicking between options within the pause menu? All of these things can bring in a lengthy loading screen. Is it game-breaking? No, but it is very annoying. - Sound issues. This is mostly choppy sound, such as dialogue being broken up by brief but constant silence between syllables. I've found this mostly occurs in Strongholds or during missions and led to me deciding to just mute the game and read the subtitles. Not good at all (and it especially annoys me since the music is fantastic but not when it's being chopped up into 1 second bites) - Texture issues, both pop-in and failure to load. Shadow of Mordor already doesn't look especially good. The world is already dark and there's a grimy sort of feel to everything but at least that fits the game, I suppose. What isn't peasant though is when textures pop-in right next to you, or when they don't load and instead you find yourself running around blank, textureless blocks of colour. Again, this seems most prevalent in Strongholds or during Missions. Perhaps the only thing I can't grumble about is the Nemesis system. Though it is, of course, not as vast as the PS4/XBone/PC versions, it works perfectly well and comes with enough options for the enemies to not repeat their traits and appearances too often. The bottom line, I suppose, is this: There are bigger, better-looking, better-sounding games out there that manage to do everything Shadow of Mordor does, on the PS3, without any issues. Even the games Shadow of Mordor derives from - the Batman Arkham series and the Assassin's Creed games - manage to do all that this game attempts and they do it all beautifully. This is a terrible, awfully lazy port by the developers, cynically wrought and forced out in order to grab a quick wad of money. It feels like a constant judgement from the developers, as if to chastise me for not shelling out a huge amount of cash for a high-end gaming PC or a new console and so my punishment is to play one of the most horribly optimised ports out there. I'm sure the PS4/XBone/PC one is wonderful but this, this is a travesty. Do not buy.

Sehr mies!

Excellent game. Hours of fun. An interesting story line. And lots to do in this open world game.
