A bit thicker. It is very shredded but if you take a mouthful, you can chew it for a few minutes. It's tasty though, pure beef flavor. **Q: Could I repackage this in mylar bags to get a shelf life longer than one year?** A: When commercial beef jerky has been properly cooked, dehydrated, packaged, and stored, an unopened bag will not go bad. It will, however, gradually lose freshness in texture and flavor. The best-by date on the package indicates the window of peak freshness. As long as it has been stored properly, unopened jerky is safe to consume after the best-by date. But it won’t taste as good as fresh jerky. **Q: How is this machaca? its only shredded dried beef... not even any tomato powder or peppers in it, and its made in los angeles!** A: It is finely shredded beef, sea salt, spices and garlic. Not sure what the spices are? I tried it several times and really liked it. I found that I needed to add more water and cook it a little longer then my recipe called for, so that the machaca was soft and didn't have crunchy jerky in it. The taste is really good for it being shredded jerky, better than most other brands. I've changed my 3 stars to 4. I love eating beef jerky, it's one of my favorite snacks. I really enjoy shredded beef jerky also, but it's either really expensive or doesn't taste as good. This tastes pretty good and has no sugar added which is a plus, but the consistency of it is super annoying. Most is shredded small pieces but there are a lot of hard chunks mixed in.
