Since both the old and new thermostats were made by Honeywell, it was easy to install as the wiring hookup was identical. After installation, I noted that the temperature reported by the new thermostat seemed a bit low but I figured it was due to having been in the desertcart delivery van for several hours. I set the temperature to the desired room temperature and the heat immediately came on. I went on to do other things and forgot about it. About an hour or so later, I was feeling quite warm and noticed the heat was still on. I went to check the thermostat and it was still reading a low temperature! The heat was running continuously for over an hour. I immediately shut it off and checked the room temperature. A standalone digital thermometer said 68 while the thermostat said 57. Not good. I put the thermostat in standby and figured I would wait a few hours and see if anything changed. The next morning, the new thermostat now read 52 and the room temperature was 60. Something was definitely wrong. I initiated an exchange with desertcart and a replacement arrived two days later. I installed the new one and it immediately read the same temperature as the digital thermometer so I was happy. I have been using the replacement for four days now and it is working as expected. The backlight is very helpful in low light situations and having both the room temperature and set temperature displayed side-by-side is helpful too. And as luck would have it, the mounting hole locations were identical to the previous thermostat so it was a simple mounting job. As long as you get a properly functioning unit, it should work very well. If not, desertcart's exchange procedure is painless and I was able to get the issue rectified pretty quickly (it was possible to manually activate the heat on the defective unit so I was not freezing waiting for the replacement). I gave the thermostat five stars because the replacement is working very well. I figure the defective unit was a "one off" and not indicative of the overall quality. This is the case for us; we are retired and do not have set schedules. It is much easier to adjust the thermostat as needed and, to be honest, we don't need to very often. The only way this thermostat could be easier to use if it was voice-activated. Mine is hooked up to an oil/hot water furnace and does not restrict cycling. Cannot provide information should this be hooked up to another type of heating system. **Q: Can you adjust the themometer part if the correct temp is not being displayed** A: no, there is no way to "re-calibrate" the display temp if it doesn't seem correct **Q: can someone tell me if this can replace Robertshaw 8425-2 heat/2 cool ?** A: Your Robertshaw thermostat has 10 wire terminals and the Honeywell has 9 terminals. According to the Honeywell instructions, it will handle 2 stage heating and one stage cooling; or 1 stage heating and 1 stage cooling. You can call honeywell customer service to see for sure: 1-800-468-1502 ... that is the number on the instructions.From what I can see in the directions, the thermostat was designed to handle a wide range of heating (gas, oil, electric, hot water and steam) systems and air conditioning. There are several wiring options depending on the systems you have, so READ the directions prior to starting and follow them during the instalation.My thermostat is NOT cheap Chinese plastic, it was assembled in Mexico. It has worked very well for heating my home last winter and was working fine for cooling last week .... we are colder again this week! It is much more accurate than the programable Honeywell thermostat it replaced. **Q: Can this replace a Honeywell old 80's style heat only dial?** A: Yes. All you have to do is simply not connect any AC wires to the terminal. When you remove the old thermostat, take note of what wires went to what terminals, and try to duplicate. The instruction sheet will make it clear failing that.
