What is the diameter?

This is smaller than the original WhamO Superball. The original one was at least 2in and made of the patented and very expensive, hard man-made rubber called Zectron invented in 1964 by the Bettis Rubber Company. It is still the bounciest ball ever made with being the only ball having the ability to be tossed at a 20 degree angle and bounce out at the same 20 degree angle. In the 70's the market got flooded with cheap obviously less-bouncy copies, so WhamO ceased all production in 1976. Early ones were black, later the real WhamO ones that I saw and bought back in the early 70's were a dull/flat Grayish-Blue in color. They were kinda dangerous. Once, I hit myself in the eye and saw LIGHTNING!! and got a nice "shiner". This one and all others are obviously a cheap copies. Look up the YT vid "Wham-O Super Ball Commercial (1960s)". If your ball doesn't bounce like this, it's not a real Superball made of Zectron.

What is the diameter of this ball? It’s listed as “Item dimensions: 7.25 x 2.75 x 2 inches, which is patently ridiculous for a spherical object.

the dimensions are for the blister pack the ball comes on. The 2-inch dimension is the blister size, so the ball is about 2 inches in diameter.

Are they good for playing with dogs?

No. The product is 50,000 pounds of compressed Zectron, which is what makes it bounce so high. The compression, however, makes the substance come apart with wear and a dog's teeth would cause it to come apart in the dog's mouth. And though it may or may not be toxic (I don't think it would), you still don't want it coming apart in the dog's mouth.
