I have to break the block into smaller piece as only have couple of shrimp in my 20l tank... My amano shrimps and zebra snail are now 4 years old. Never had issues with shedding. State must be taken out after 14 days, but mine rarely last much more than a week, as everything has a nibble at these. Have come very useful for my cherry shrimp, as since putting one of these in not had any troublesome moulting, so the calcium content is good for the shrimps....
