Review: Incite full - Really enjoyed this book and it brought the Disc profiling to life more enabling me to apply it better in my personal relationships. Expensive but worth it. Review: a nice tale - it is a nice tale about the differents DISC Characters. As in much self-developmment book, the story is a metaphor. You might like it, but I was expecting something more like a tool box and more "straight to the point".

Birdseye views on how to transform individual people as well as the relationships and organizations they share
The effectiveness of a business fable depends on (a) the quality of the material on which the setting, characters, plot, etc. are based and (b) the storytelling skills of the author. In terms of both criteria, I rate this book well above average but not of a quality comparable with that of business fables created by Eli Goldratt and Patrick Lencioni. That may seem like damning with faint praise but it really isn't. There is much of substantial value in what Merrick Rosenberg and Daniel Silvert provide, hence the rating. To borrow a basic truth from residential real estate, for every book there's a buyer. I think many executives who read this book will appreciate and then apply to their benefit DISC, a model of behavior with a framework, a pattern of behavior that is "hidden in everything we do, and it just might be the most powerful tool [actually, a methodology] you ever discover because it will enable you to maximize your potential and deepen your connection with everyone you know." I think it will be especially valuable to those who are now actively involved - or who are now planning to be actively involved - with one or more social networks such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. The details of the business fable (Part I) are best revealed in context, within the narrative. Suffice to say now that Merrick Rosenberg and Daniel Silvert, perhaps inspired at least to some extent by Aesop's fables, focus on four types of birds whose personalities have metaphorical significance with regard to the DISC acronym: Eagle (Dominant), Parrot (Interactive), Dove (Supportive), and Owl (Conscientious). Unlike birds, obviously, humans develop personalities that are a combination of several qualities that are not necessarily mutually-exclusive. Moreover, expediency often determines which quality is most appropriate in the given situation. These are among the points made in Parts II and III of greatest interest and value to me, also listed to suggest the range of subjects that Rosenberg and Silver explore with rigor and eloquence: o Four important points to consider with regard to DISC (Page 119) o The Four Styles: Fast-Paced & Verbal, Task-Oriented, People-Oriented, and Even-Paced & Reserved (121-126) o Seven Transformative DISC Principles (133-135) o Principle 6 -- Apply the Right Style at the Right Time (148-150) o Steps for Reaching Your Highest Potential (157-165) o DISC in the Work Environment (170-174) o Steps to Tapping the Power of Style in Teams (183-184) In my opinion, Merrick Rosenberg and Daniel Silvert could have -- and should have -- more fully developed the fable's narrative (Part I) so that it facilitates more and better correlations with the material in Parts 11 and III. No brief commentary such as mine can possibly do full justice to the scope of material that they provide but I hope that those who read this commentary will be better prepared to determine whether or not they wish to read the book and, in that event, will have at least some idea of how understanding the DISC styles could perhaps be of substantial benefit to them as well as to their own organization.

Superficial
Does not go very deep. Bird analogy is interesting but the story is much too long. Remove the story and you read the book in an hour

Very basic
I have read many books on successful team building. This is the worst. It is simplistic and therefore uninteresting. I completed it in under an hour. A total waste of time and money.

The author brings out the understanding of the gmfiur behavioural styles using a fable and makes it an interesting read. The book is very engaging and brings out all the aspects of the DISC styles. An added advantage of this book is it helps us understand these styles in different environments and thus helps us build the right perspectives towards the DISC. A wonderful, helpful and fun book to read.

DISC is a good understandable schema for people who are interested in their own change management and interconnects. The four points can be easily adapted in a society based on four point cultures figures like four elements, four directions, four riders ....

Taking flight is a fun and easy way to teach communication and for teams to understand each other.

Taking Flight teaches the DISC model through a fable, followed by a more detailed descriptions of the styles and how to apply the styles throughout one's life. For those of you who are not familiar with the DISC, it's a psychological model that explains how we communicate, how we are likely to react to situations, and our likes and dislikes. D stands for Dominant styles. People who are D's like to lead others, are direct, and decisive. I stands for Interactive. People of this style tend to be social, fun-loving, and highly optimistic. S stands for Supportive. S's are patient, loyal, and empathetic. C stands for Conscientious. C's focus on accuracy and are highly logical and systematic. The fable characters represent each of the styles and the reader quickly hones in on which is most like him/her. The story is light and engaging - clearly the focus is on discovering layers of meaning within each personality style, which the authors accomplished with remarkable clarity. By the end of the fable, I had a good grasp of how each style plays out in the world. Given the light nature of the story, I was pleasantly surprised at how thorough, insightful, and practical the later sections are. Rosenberg and Silvert don't pull any punches with how one can improve themselves. After taking the profile that follows the fable, check out Steps for Reaching Your Highest Potential. I was stunned at how accurately it depicted my own challenges - as well as relationships in my life. In fact, I find myself `people reading' nearly everyone I know. The DISC, as presented here at least, is a remarkable lens with which to view yourself, relationships that matter to you, co-workers, your boss, everyone. Fantastic!
