This is an amazing pole for the money. It is easily the nicest fiberglass/graphite hybrid pole I have ever owned. It has 8 double-foot guides plus the tip that are pretty stout for this medium-light application. While this may be a medium-light by catfish standards, it is easily a medium by most fishing pole standards.There is no rating on the rod, but I would guesstimate the rating at 10-17 lbs. mono and 1/2-1.5 oz. lure. If most of your catfish are less than 10lbs. and in light-current waters, don't waste your time with the medium action. You'll have much more fun with this one. It casts my 1.0 oz. slip rig plus bait beautifully. Like all of the SuperCat rods, it has a lot of handle that's great for leverage on big weights, but the effective rod length on this 7'6" rod is only about 4" longer than a 6'6" UglyStik GX2 (see picture). For this medium-light they really should have shortened the handle a tad.The medium-light rod weighs 296 g (10.4 oz.). For reference a medium 6"6" UglyStik GX2 weighs 180 g (6.4 oz.). Despite the additional weight the long handle makes it pretty balanced, and it feels far lighter in the hand than it really is. I paired it with 40 size Okuma Avenger ABF-b baitfeeder reel with 15 lbs. mono. It makes a setup light enough to carry around comfortably, but with plenty of capacity.I recommend this rod without any hesitation. I instantly loved it, and it makes a rod like the UglyStik feel like hot garbage after using the RippinLips SuperCat. I believe the guides in the medium-light are the same as the medium. This rod is still pretty new, so you'll see tons of of recommendations for the medium on forums, but I fully recommend you get this medium-light if you are mainly going after fish less than 10 lbs., but still want a rod that can handle a 20+lbs. The medium will not be as fun for 2-3 lbs. channel cats, so ask yourself if you genuinely need a rod for heavier current or 30+ lbs. fish. I would not recommend it if you don't like whippy rods with moderate action. You'll cast further with something faster action made of graphite, but pound-for-pound catching fish, this rod will probably be more fun. I can't wait to try it out for saltwater at piers and jetties. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Heavy Duty Medium Lite Rod! *by R***W on Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2019* Very heavy duty for a medium lite spinning rod, be it for catfish or not! Be advised that at least 18 to 24 inches of this rod is the handle/grip, which leaves about 5' 6" of actual casting blank. Large guide eyelets allow a bobber stop to slide easily thru for slip bobber fishing, a real plus compared to some of the other "Catfish" rods. This rod is not for farm pond size cats by any means. It's better use would be for 5 lbs. and larger fish!
