The StarTech Dual-Host USB-C KVM Dock is a powerhouse workstation hub designed for professionals juggling two laptops. It supports dual 4K 60Hz DisplayPort monitors, charges both laptops simultaneously with up to 90W USB-C Power Delivery, and offers extensive connectivity including a 5-port USB hub, Gigabit Ethernet with MAC pass-through, and audio ports. ## Description

The USB-C KVM Docking Station facilitates a dual-host, dual monitor 4K 60Hz workstation with two DisplayPort ports. Connect two USB-C laptops and select the target host device, using the toggle button. It features a 5-Port USB Hub, a Gb Ethernet port, and USB Power Delivery to charge the hosts and peripherals. Additionally, 3.5mm ports enable speaker and mic audio. The dock is DisplayLink Certified, for Plug and Display compatibility with Windows, ChromeOS, and macOS (supports mixed operating systems). DisplayLink technology supports extended dual displays on base Apple M-Series MacBooks, which are not natively capable of driving more than one external display. The KVM docking station charges both host computers over USB-C, using Power Delivery 3.0. The dock supplies 90W of power to the active host and 45W of power to the host on standby.

Review: Works w/ M1 & M5, 2 monitors with DisplayLink drivers (Get them direct from Synoptics, not StarTech) - I am tech consult that has clients in the most regular industry Healthcare and Finance. That being said I have two Macs (M1 & M5) that are locked down on being able to install Drivers so I gave up hope bc to extend an M1 and you have to have DisplayLink drivers. Lo and behold I was browsing the approved self service apps and DisplayLink was there. So I started looking for a KVM dock that use DisplayLink only. I found this one but when I went to install the directions sent me to their website to install the drivers and I was like OHHHH NOOOO. I just packed it up to send back and started looking again. Then I was sent while on my search to StarTech direct website and notice it saying it was DisplayLink drivers and I was like hmmm let me try it. So went directly to the DisplayLink (Synoptics) website and download it as allowed AND IT WORKED. I say this because if regulated industries with PII & PHI let you install DisplayLink, it's safe. So I would not go to the StartTech link to get the drivers just go direct to and download it and then it works. It charges both Macs, and switches my webcam over two. I hade already invested in LogiTech+ compatible keyboard and mouse (bc its software was approved & you can switch bluetooth up to 3 comps with a button) so I can't speak to how it works with those but I am sure it would work fine.
Review: Works w Macbook and PC w dual monitors with extended desktop on both - Of the 4 different dual-display KVM's that I tried , this is the easiest and most dependable. BEST SOLUTION FOR MAC. . #1 Support DIsplayLink on Mac. This is required on mac for extended desktop support. #2 ONE BUTTON PUSH to switch between computers. My setup is a 14" Macbook Pro M1 and PC Tower Ryzen 5950X/AsRock-Taichi MB/GIgabyte Titan-Ridge TB3 PCI card/RTX 3080/etc #3 Supports Huion 24" HDMI (w DVI adaptor) and its USB Pen Display input. #4 Quick recovery of display when MacBook is disconnected and then reconnected. Or when the KVM is switched off. Comparing the StarTech to the others, aside from VisionTech, all come in plain brown boxes with minimal packaging. Ordered lowest to highest price: A: VisionTek VT2900 - Nearly half the price of the others. Light weight and cheaply made feeling, Thin plastic. No support of DIsplaylink on Mac. Extended display only on PC, Mac is mirroring only. Has slower USB ports only, 1x DP 1x HDMI. B: Startech 129N-USBC-KVM-Dock - Lacking the extra HDMI port, but switching takes only 1 button push vs 2 on the others. Glowing front light is not overly bright. Plastic case, that feels solid, comparable to Targus, much better than VisionTech. Most reliable display recovery from disconnects.2x DP All other ports same between B,C,D. BEST SOLUTION FOR MAC. C: IOGEAR GUD3CDHTAA - Full metal housing, feels study and heavy weight. Has HDMI port for 3 monitor support. Macbook disconnect recovery was slower and not as reliable as the Startech, often needing to be reset. 2 button pushes (due to the HDMI port) made it confusing what PC was active. Glowing front blue LED is way too bright, and I needed to cover it. 2xDP 1xHDMI All other ports same between B,C,D. D: Targus DOCK750UsZ - Plastic case, that feels slightly more solid than Startech.. Has LED indicators on the mode switch that help reduce the confusion on 2 button presses to switch. Includes usb cables that have screws to secure them to the device. Manual provides some trouble shooting tips, something the others all lack. 2xDP 1xHDMI All other ports same between B,C,D. These are much more pricey than other KVM solutions but use far fewer cables, and offer better hub support

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I plugged my docking station but my screens aren’t coming up. Do I need drivers?**
A: Yes, this dock requires you to install the DisplayLink Manager software for macOS and Windows. Once installed, you’ll also need to authorize the permissions in macOS so the displays to function. Chrome OS is natively supported.

**Q: Can I play media content such as Netflix, Disney+, HBO etc. on macOS?**
A: No, most protected content will not play through our docking stations that use DisplayLink technology.

**Q: On macOS, why do I need to enable “Screen recording” permission for the monitors to work?**
A: This permission is required for the DisplayLink driver to access the pixels it needs to function. It does not send any data or pixels back to DisplayLink or StarTech.com.

**Q: The KVM-dock says it supports power delivery. Why isn’t it charging my laptop?**
A: To support laptop charging the host USB-C port must support USB Power Delivery (PD). If the host does not support PD, all other functionality on the Dock will work, however the laptop's power adapter will be required separately to charge the battery.

**Q: Can this KVM-Dock be used with laptops and desktop PCs?**
A: Yes, this product can be used with a desktop PC. If the PC does not have a USB-C port, use a USB-C to USB-A cable (USB31AC1M). The desktop must have at least one directly connected monitor for the KVM-DOCK to work laptops have a built-in screen).

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This works great and installed seamlessly.
*by A***R on January 18, 2024*

My only problem with this is when you switch between computers, the non-active computer collapses everything down to one screen. You have to sort this out when you switch back. Otherwise I am extremely satisfied and impressed with this device. It does exactly what I needed. Added after 4 months. I no longer think the monitors on the non active computer collapsing onto one screen is a problem. As a matter of fact, I think is is a plus. You are not stuck with your non active screens on the non active computer hanging out in space. Yes you have to move them back to the second and third screens when you switch back, but I can listen to late night zoom meetings on my work computer while working on something else on my home computer. This really is a great device. I have now been using this 5 months. I have had problems a couple of times. It has always been the cables. You might want to consider buying some backup cables and make sure they are rated for your video speeds and computer power requrements.
