can the sides open to access a generator

The sides only fold down for storage. But I suppose you could fold one side down and then set a generator on top of that to have access, but I wouldn't recommend transporting it that way. Hope this helps.We really like the carpod and have used it on a few trips since we purchased it last spring.

I have used my carpod so much that all the pins that hold the sides up have rusted. Does anyone have a link to order replacement pins?

I have a 2017 gmc terrain similar to the chevy equinox - does the hatch clear the cage when opening?

You have to put the sides of the cargo carrier down for it to clear when opening the hatch. The hatch will not clear when the cargo carrier sides are up - when hauling cargo. I have a suburban. You need a 2 inch hitch for this carrier.
