Will these work with a paint roller?

I suppose you could if you taped down the stencils or held it tightly against the surface to be painted. There are groves that slide two or more stencils together, if you are using more than one at a time, not sure if the groove would get in the way of a roller, but I doubt it as it is not very deep. We have not used a roller, we used a brush. These work great for painting numbers on storage units. Very happy with them.

Why is the picture on the box not the stencils wnt to order many sets

I can't answer this question, we purchased these stencils quiet a few years ago
