Kidde KF10 Ionisation Smoke Alarm

Bought these to replace an older Kidde model which had seen better days. I love Kidde products as despite being a different model, this fitted my older models base, no problem. It is easy to fit and must have taken me 2 minutes max to do. This is mains powered but has battery back up. I have this linked to an older model upstairs. They talk to each other, so if one goes off, so does the other A really good product which provides peace of mind.

Good quality product that I have in multiple places across three floors. Only being replaced through yellowing due to proximity to inset halogens/LEDs. If doing for the first time, watch a YouTube video because I damaged one of the plastic clips in my haste to fit it instead of using a flat head screwdriver to depress it and remove so that cost me an extra. However, at the price I paid (around £12 with Prime next day) it was still worth the money and the old one was partially cannibalised. I wish my ceilings were a couple of feet lower sometimes (not really) as my arms get tired faffing around with this sort of thing and removing stubborn GU10 bulbs in recessed down-lights that refuse to budge.

easy installation for the experienced. Slight problem as my ceiling is apparently not flat!! So far no false alarms and deafening noise just for turning the hob on. Comforting to know that the house is now covered by in date equipment. Looks smart as well.

Already had smoke detectors in house that were very old. These fitted directly to them.l so installation was extremely easy in my case. The “hush” function when the alarm is activated is a life saver (we had plumber who was soldering copper pipes set off alarm during building extension so this came in very handy). Very loud.

Arrived on time. Easy to fit, including changing wiring terminal. Fitted ok to BRK ceiling plate. We have solar panels installed, BRK alarms chirped when sun came out, (ok just on battery power) ,voltage change issue. Changed old alarms twice for new ones, still chirping. BRK tested, not faulty. Fitted two of these, no chirping, normal life resumed! !

much impressed by the speed of delivery , came in real good time - easy enough to install and test and so far it would appear to be working - only given the battery 3 stars because whilst it came with a battery it's only been in situ for a few days and these batteries are supposed to last for a good while - it's a removable/renewable long life 9 volt battery which hopefully will outlive the alarm which apparently also has a life i.e. they don't last for ever
