Bridgman's Complete Guide to Drawing From Life

Any aspiring artist would benefit from dipping in and out of this book , it guides you through the fundamentals of form and structure ,and in so doing so , gives you that essential little kick ,to get over the white fright ,and do some drawing , just draw , and draw ! , and hey if it does not work out for you !! , go back to book and draw some more...... this book covers just about everything ,and is well worth the cost .

After reading just the first chapter of this book I can safely say it's one of the best books on drawing I have. This book truly focuses on poses, balance and rhythm; which is something missing from other books in my collection. It assumes you already have an interest in drawing and have some understanding of drawing the figure. It's not an anatomy book but fast becoming my favourite book on life drawing. Good for animators, illustrators and artists alike. If you can grab a copy, do not hesitate! It's an absolute steal at this price.

Figures stylised, but no book can do everything. Good for beginners and advanced. Breaks the human form down allowing an knowledge enabling the artist to create their own images.

step by step experience on every page - really helpful text book

Earlier editions of this book were infamous because some of the drawings were printed upside down. Also they managed to be even more cryptic than the original small books in quite a few places. This edition corrects the first flaw, and also somewhat rectifies the second flaw by expanding the most difficult passages. Highly recommended--if you do any figure drawing at all, you definitely should have this book on your shelf.

It's great having all of Bridgman's teaching in just one book. I have to admit, the text is at times hard to read, since it's older english, but overall it is an amazing book for you to learn more about gesture and tee contruction of the body.

Excellent resource, text+pictures have been rearranged in a tidier manner so it's simple to tell which is referring to which (if you've tried to borrow or read older editions of Bridgman, its quite a headache at times). Upon comparison, the text itself appears to be the same, just in different order. It's great value as it's basically a compilation of 7 books in a more 'digestible' order, just that it's quite large and hefty as a result when bringing it around for practice. Don't buy it as an absolute beginner, but it's fantastic when you are further into your art journey.
